ABSTRACT This study aims to explain the contestation of Andi in Pinrang at the election arena. Some of the reasons of writing the contestation of Andi as focus of study in this paper include: First: augmented the object of study of the Bugis community especially Andi groups. Secondly, Andi as upper stratum of Bugis society always had a desire to dominate power and does not hesitate to compete in mutual intergroup. Third, talk about local democracy in South Sulawesi, Andi as a local strongman that is now return to perform in local politics after the political liberalization reforms era which actually engendering conflict that led to their internal rifts. Three reasons are deemed sufficient for the authors to examine Andi contestation over the local political arena after political decentralization applied. The opening of the doors of democracy which gives every opportunity for all segments of society to participate in any political arena both local and national levels to make changes in the behavior patterns of the Andi in order to remain existing in the realm of the local authority. Even if the rift occurred, it is considered commonplace in the political atmosphere when the same desire for power. This is what makes this study to answer the question: How does the process of contestation of Andi in Pinrang at the election arena on the 18th September 2013?. To answer these questions, this study uses the concept of the workings of habitués and Capital Pierre Bourdieu to analyze the contestation Andi process in getting power at the realm of Pinrang regional elections in 2013. This concept is considered to be able to see the process of Andi contestation in mobilizing the masses and shows the implementation of the workings of capital itself in the society of Pinrang. From the findings in the field indicates the fact that the classes of Andi compete forf the authority in the election arena that is specifically can not be separated from three things: First, construction of Andi’s behavior in the fabric of society to be decisive to get the sympathy of voters. Secondly, the presence of the capital itself becomes a tool for the Andi to participate to decisive victory, the most powerful is the capital of symbolic capital as well as its dominance in society affect the support obtained. Third, habitués and capital where Andi’s victory will be affected at the election arena as container utilization or playing habitués and capital Thirdly, this matter becomes the determinant to decisive victory of the central actors in the election arena. The rigors of battle for power in the local political scene have implications for the rift in their internal body. The political climate is becoming dilemma toward solidity to the existence of this noble group of local democracy in the present and the future.
