ABSTRACT This research theme is the style of leadership in determining the success of development in the region. The object of the study is Dr, Stepanus Malak, Drs, M.Sc., Head of Sorong Regency. The purpose of this study is to investigate the leadership styles used by Dr, Stepanus Malak, Drs, M.Sc., in performing their duties and authority as Regent Sorong. Qualitative descriptive methods used in this study. In this research, which is used as the unit of analysis is the style / model of Leadership Dr, Stepanus Malak, Drs. M.Sc., as Head of Sorong Regency. Decision-making techniques, how to motivate, how to resolve problems, and local approaches are variables analyzed in this study. The analysis showed, Dr Stepanus Malak, Drs, M.Sc., including democratic leader. These results refer to the way decision-making which emphasizes involvement of all stakeholders, problem solving approach to win-win solutions, promote exemplary in motivating followers, and promote localism. Besides identified using a democratic leadership style, Dr, Stepanus Malak, Drs, M.Sc., is also included in the transformational leader. Keywords: leadership styles, regional head, duties, authority
