ABSTRACT Bribery practice has become a phenomenon in Indonesian press world. The practice which is known as envelope journalist phenomenon refers to a reality in the field when a journalist accepts money, things, accommodation facilities, trip ticket, and treat, and so on from the sources. This practice, in journalist surroundings, seems to be legalized. It has even been a culture for the media actors. The reason, which is to hold close relationship with the sources or barely fit journalist wealth problem, is often uttered to make this culture legal. Bribery practice is one of application problems in journalistic code of conduct. The code of conduct itself is a universal moral value towards the professionalism. The more this practice becomes the culture; the more the professionalism is questioned. It threatens public lives because the journalist obligation to publish news will be influenced by the gift from the sources that makes the journalist dependant. Based on the explanation above, this research digs deeper about how this bribery practice happens directly between journalist and sources. This research also proves the cause factors and the effects on journalists’ work. This research is addressed for all journalists whether they join organizational affiliation or not.
