ABSTRACT This study of the security threats occurring in the border areas of the Republic of Indonesia and Timor Leste. This study aimed to study the issues related to security threats at the border between the Republic of Indonesia and East Timor, Belu regency case studies, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The author tries to find the factors that pose a threat on the border, what is the most important current threats on the border of the Republic of Indonesia and East Timor and Belu how the role of Local Government in tackle these threats occur at the border. The authors found that the cause of the threat of border security between the Republic of Indonesia and East Timor at this time due to lack of attention from the Indonesian government on the importance of border issues and communities around the border regarding the level of economic prosperity, uneven infrastructure in the border areas, thus will provide opportunities great for the threats that include illegal trade in the border area which is an area of Belu regency sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia.
