PERBANDINGAN EFEKTIVITAS PEMBERSIHAN GIGI TIRUAN LENGKAP MENGGUNAKAN SIKAT GIGI MANUAL DAN SIKAT GIGI ELEKTRIK TERHADAP PENURUNAN SKOR PLAK

Pemakaian gigi tiruan yang terus-menerus menyebabkan mukosa di bawah gigi tiruan akan tertutup, sehingga pembersihan mukosa dan gigi tiruan terhalangi. Apabila gigi tiruan jarang dilepas dan dibersihkan maka pada permukaan gigi tiruan akan terbentuk plak. Penumpukan plak akan menyebabkan denture stomatitis dan bau mulut tidak sedap. Pembersihan plak pada gigi tiruan lengkap dapat dilakukan dengan cara menyikat gigi tiruan lengkap. Sikat gigi yang digunakan ada dua macam yaitu sikat gigi manual dan sikat gigi elektrik. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental klinis, penelitian dilakukan terhadap 20 subjek pengguna gigi tiruan lengkap. Penelitian dilakukan dengan cara mendatangi rumah subjek untuk diberikan informasi mengenai penelitian yang akan dilakukan, subjek dijelaskan bahwa penelitian dilakukan dua hari yaitu pada hari pertama subjek membersihkan gigi tiruan lengkap menggunakan sikat gigi elektrik. Skor plak dihitung pada saat sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan sikat gigi. Perbedaan skor plak gigi sebelum dan sesudah menyikat gigi pada masing-masing kelompok sikat gigi dianalisis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon. Analisis data menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,05) pada hasil skor plak gigi pada pengguna sikat gigi manual dan sikat gigi elektrik. Kesimpulan yang didapatkan bahwa sikat gigi elektrik lebih efektif membersihkan plak pada gigi tiruan lengkap dibandingkan dengan sikat gigi manual.

Mucosa under denture will be covered by the use of the denture continously in order that the cleaning of denture and mucosa will be obstructed. If the denture were rarely removed and cleaned, the dental plaque on the surface of the denture will be formed. Accumulation of plaque will cause the denture stomatitis and halitosis. The cleaning of the dental plaque on the full denture can be done by brushing. There are two types of toothbrush is: manual and electric toothbrush. The research clinical experimental, this research was done to the 20 subjects who wearing the full denture. This research was done by home visit to the subject's houses to information. Subject will be explained that the research will be done in two days. The first day, subject cleaned the full denture with manual toothbrush and the second day, subject cleaned the full denture by electrical toothbrush. Plaque score will be calculated at the time before and after using toothbrush, the differences of the dental plaque score at the time before and after tooth brushing were analyzed with wilcoxon test. The result of the data analysis showed there were significant (p<0.05) differences of the dental plaque score of the subject that used manual and electric toothbrush. The conclusion of this research is electric toothbrush more efective to clean the dental plaque on the full denture than the manual one.
