PENGARUH EKSTRAK DAUN BELIMBING WULUH (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI KAWAT ORTODONTI STAINLESS STEEL

2017 | Skripsi | S1 HIGIENE GIGIKawat ortodonti dapat mengalami korosi di rongga mulut. Korosi dapat berpengaruh buruk bagi tubuh manusia seperti alergi dan keracunan. Salah satu cara mengurangi laju korosi adalah dengan pemakaian inhibitor. Inhibitor yang didapat dari bahan alami biasanya lebih dipilih karena tidak berbahaya bagi tubuh dan lingkungan, salah satunya adalah daun belimbing wuluh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh terhadap laju korosi kawat ortodonti stainless steel. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratoris. Jumlah sampel adalah 24 kawat ortodonti stainless steel diameter 0,7 mm yang telah dipreparasi kemudian dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok secara acak yaitu kelompok kontrol, kelompok konsentrasi 0,3%, kelompok konsentrasi 0,6% dan kelompok konsentrasi 1%. Sampel direndam dalam saliva buatan dan diinkubasi pada suhu 370C selama 7 hari. Selanjutnya sampel diukur laju korosinya menggunakan metode kehilangan berat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh dapat menghambat laju korosi kawat ortodonti stainless steel. Hasil uji one way ANOVA diperoleh nilai signifikansi <0,05 serta pada uji Post Hoc LSD diketahui terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara kelompok kontrol dengan kelompok perlakuan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh dapat menghambat laju korosi kawat ortodonti stainless steel. Ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh konsentrasi 1% memiliki pengaruh yang lebih besar dalam menghambat laju korosi dibandingkan konsentrasi 0,3% dan 0,6%.
Orthodontic wire can be corroded in the oral cavity. Corrosion can affect to the human body such as allergies and poisoning. One way to reduce the corrosion rate of orthodontic wire is using inhibitor. Natural ingredients extract inhibitor is usually preferred because it is not harmful to the human body and environment, one of which is starfruit leaves. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of starfruit leaf extract on the corrosion rate of orthodontic stainless steel wire. This study was an experimental laboratory research. Samples was 24 orthodontic stainless steel wire which had been prepared and then divided into 4 group, there were control group, concentration of 0.3% group, concentration of 0.6% group and concentration of 1% group. Samples were soaked in the artificial saliva and incubated in 370C for 7 days. Then samples were measured by using weight loss method. The result of this study showed that starfruit leaf extract can inhibit the corrosion rate of orthodontic stainless steel wire. One way ANOVA test result obtained by significance value <0,05 and on Post Hoc LSD test known there is significant difference between control group and treatment group. The conclusion of this research was starfruit leaf extract can inhibit the corrosion rate of orthodontic stainless steel wire. Concentration of 1% had greater influence in inhibit the corrosion rate than concentration of 0.3% and 0.6%.
