Manajemen kandang merupakan salah satu unsur terpenting dalam menentukan keberhasilan suatu peternakan ayam. Tujuan penulisan tugas akhir ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan manajemen kandang ayam broiler di peternakan PIAT UGM. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan mencatat informasi dari petugas kandang dan pengambilan foto di beberapa lokasi kandang pada periode 6-18 Februari 2017. Kandang yang terdapat di lokasi PKL berupa 1 kandang panggung, 7 kandang postal, dan 1 kandang closed house. Kandang panggung memiliki dinding dan lantai yang terbuat dari bambu. Kandang postal memiliki dinding yang terbuat dari bambu, kawat, dan jaring, serta lantai yang terbuat dari semen. Kandang closed house berupa kandang tertutup yang dindingnya tertutup dengan tirai yang rapat, dilengkapi dengan cooling pad serta lantai yang terbuat dari semen. Atap kandang panggung dan kandang postal terbuat dari asbes sedangkan atap kandang closed house terbuat dari seng. Perlengkapan kandang selama masa pemeliharaan yang terdapat di lokasi peternakan berupa chick guard, pemanas, tempat pakan, instalasi tempat minum, tirai, dan gudang pakan. Lokasi kandang lebih rendah dari tanah sekitar dan berdekatan dengan peternakan lain serta masih terlalu dekat dengan pemukiman penduduk. Kandang dikelilingi oleh pohon besar yang dapat membahayakan konstruksi kandang dan dapat pula menjadi sarana bagi hewan pembawa penyakit atau hewan pemangsa unggas. Suhu di kandang postal menyesuaikan lingkungan dan dapat ditangani dengan penambahan kipas serta pengoprasian tirai. Kandang closed house dilengkapi dengan cooling pad dan blower sehingga temperatur di dalam kandang cukup stabil.

Cage management is one of the most important elements in determining the success of a chicken farm. The purpose of this work is to know the application of broiler chicken coop management in PIAT farm UGM. Data collection is done by recording information from the cage officer and photo taking at several enclosure locations during the period 6-18 February 2017. The enclosure in the location of street vendors is 1 stage cage, 7 postal enclosure, and 1 enclosure closed house. The stage enclosure has walls and floors made of bamboo. The postal enclosure has walls made of bamboo, wire, and webs, as well as floors made of cement. The enclosed enclosure is a closed enclosure whose walls are covered with tight curtains, complemented by cooling pads and cemented floors. The roof of the stage cage and postal cage is made of asbestos while the roof of the enclosure is made of zinc. Equipment for the cage during the maintenance period located at the location of the farm in the form of chick guard, heating, feeding places, installation of drinking places, curtains, and feed warehouse. The cage location is lower than the surrounding soil and is adjacent to other farms and is still too close to the settlements. The enclosure is surrounded by a large tree that can harm the construction of the cage and can also be a means for animals carrying disease or poultry prey animals. The temperature in the postal cage adjusts the environment and can be handled with the addition of fan and curtain operation. The enclosure is equipped with a cooling pad and blower so that the temperature inside the cage is quite stable.
