ANALYZING EFFECTIVENESS OF INDONESIAN POLICY ON RESTORATION AND CONSERVATION OF WORLD HERITAGE SITES: CASE OF PRAMBANAN TEMPLE CORE ZONE DURING POST-EARTHQUAKE PERIOD (2006-2016)

This study is about analysing the effectiveness of Indonesian government policy on restoration and conservation of world heritage sites, case of Prambanan temple core zone with the objectives of finding out the Prambanan temple core zone problems related torestoration and conservation over the last decade (2006 -2016), to find out Indonesian government policy objectives to address Prambanan temple core zone issues of restoration and conservation during the post-earthquakeperiod (2006 to 2016), and to analyze the effectiveness of the policy. Research questions were: what are the restoration and conservation problems of Prambanan temple core zone during the post-earthquake period (2006 to 2016)? What are the Indonesian government policy objectives on Prambanan temple core zone restoration and conservation during the post- earthquake Period (2006to2016) and How effective is the Indonesian policy on Prambanan temple core zone restoration and conservation during the post- earthquake Period (2006to2016).Inperspective of raising the awareness of the sustainable development of world heritages and their significant contribution to the socio-economic development, the researcher conducted this research and Prambanan world heritage has been chosenas acase study due to its significant contribution to socio-economic development of indonesian population.Interview and survey have been conducted to get data and different books, websites, journals and reports related to the topic have been also consulted to get more supporting data to analyze the effectiveness of Indonesian government policy on conservation on restoration of Prambanan world heritage. The theory of restoration and conservation of cultural heritages have been used and policy analysis theory also has been reviewed. The findings revealed that Indonesian government policy on restoration and conservation of Prambanan temple core zone has been effective over the last decade. The temple is restored to its original state after damages caused by 2006 earthquake, streng the ned, cleaned, and now looks attractive. The researcher concluded that Prambanan temple faced issues caused by 2006 earthquakes and other daily conservation issues over the last decade, the government policy to address those issues has been effective. The researcher recommends Sustainable and scheduled maintenance for the conservation and restoration works, experienced manpower, and list of regulations for tourist activities for the sustainability of Prambanan templedue to the fact that Prambanan temple is located in earthquake dangerzone and at the foot plane of active volcano (Merapi)
