Representasi Kriminal sebagai Protagonis dalam Film Adaptasi Komik Kontemporer (Analisis Wacana Multimodal Film Marvel "Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)" dan DC Comics "Suicide Squad (2016)")

Industri film global saat ini dikuasai oleh film-film franchise. Film jenis ini biasanya menggunakan formula saling terhubung antara satu film dengan film lainnya. Pada perkembangannya, salah satu franchise film tersukses merupakan film-film adaptasi komik kontemporer. Di sini, terdapat dua pemain utama yang memimpin, yaitu Marvel dengan Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) yang telah merilis film pertamanya pada 2008 dan DC Comics menyusul dengan menciptakan DC Extended Universe (DCEU) yang memulainya pada 2013. Di periode awal, kisah yang banyak diangkat oleh keduanya selalu berkutat pada karakter superhero sebagai protagonis. Namun, Marvel dan DC Comics kemudian justru ikut menyelipkan dua judul film yang menempatkan kriminal di posisi protagonis. Marvel merilis Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) sedangkan DC Comic mengeluarkan Suicide Squad (2016). Penelitian kualitatif teks media ini bertujuan untuk memahami representasi kriminal sebagai protagonis dalam film Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) dan Suicide Squad (2016). Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan analisis wacana multimodal yang mengintegrasikan Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) milik Halliday (1978, 2014); Visual Grammar milik Kress dan van Leeuwen (2016) yang merupakan pengembangan Functional Grammar milik Halliday (2014); dan kerangka kognitif dari Cohen (2001) untuk analisis suara. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan, representasi kriminal sebagai protagonis dalam film adaptasi komik kontemporer dapat dikategorisasikan ke dalam tiga wacana besar: "kriminal" sebagai kriminal, kriminal sebagai sosok superior, dan kriminal sebagai anti-hero serta ambiguitas moral. Kategorisasi wacana kriminal tersebut disusun berdasarkan adaptasi dari integrasi teori identitas dan teori identitas sosial yang ditawarkan oleh Stats dan Burke (2000), yaitu: level mikro, level meso, dan level makro. Hasil analisis juga menunjukkan bahwa kedua film mempunyai alur transformasi terhadap sosok kriminal yang berbeda. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) mengarahkan para kriminal untuk berubah dari tokoh jahat ke tokoh baik. Sedangkan Suicide Squad (2016) mengarahkan para kriminal sebagai tokoh jahat yang masih memiliki sisi baik.

The global film industry is currently dominated by franchise films. This type of film usually uses a formula that is connected between one film with another. In its development, one of the most successful franchise film is film adaptation of contemporary comic book. In this path, Marvel launched Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which has released its first film in 2008 and DC Comics following Marvel's strategy with the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) that started in 2013. In the early period, both studios always dwell on the superhero character as the protagonist. However, Marvel and DC Comics then just released two films that put criminal in the protagonist position. Marvel released Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) while DC Comic released Suicide Squad (2016). This media qualitative research aims to understand the criminal representation as protagonist in the film Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Suicide Squad (2016). The method used is multimodal discourse analysis approach that integrates Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar (1978, 2014); Visual Grammar by Kress and van Leeuwen (2016) which is the development from Halliday's Functional Grammar (2014); And the cognitive framework by Cohen (2001) for sound analysis. Based on the analysis, criminal representation as protagonist in contemporary comic book films adaptation can be categorized into three major discourses: "criminal" as criminal, criminal as superior character, and criminal as anti-hero and moral ambiguity. Those categorization of criminal discourse are based on adaptation of the integration of identity theory and social identity theory offered by Stats and Burke (2000), namely: micro level, meso level, and macro level. The results of the analysis also show that both films have different transformation path regarding criminal figures. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) directs criminals to transform from bad characters to good characters. While Suicide Squad (2016) directed the criminals as evil characters who still have a good side.
