PERBANDINGAN PENILAIAN ANTARA HASIL PERAWATAN ORTODONTI CEKAT TEKNIK BEGG DAN TEKNIK EDGEWISE DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN AMERICAN BOARD OF ORTHODONTICS OBJECTIVE GRADING SYSTEM

Perawatan ortodonti dilakukan apabila terjadi maloklusi yang menyebabkan gangguan pada estetika dan fungsi pengunyahan. Teknik Begg merupakan alat ortodonti cekat yang menggunakan kawat bulat australian dan menghasilkan gaya ringan dan kontinyu. Teknik Edgewise menggunakan kawat rektangular yang bertujuan untuk menggerakkan gigi ke arah tiga bidang yang memungkinkan pergerakan gigi yang normal terhadap posisi akar dan mahkota gigi. American Board Orthodontic Objective Grading System merupakan evaluasi kesejajaran gigi dan oklusi berdasarkan penaksiran dari model dan radiografi panoramik yang dapat dipercaya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbandingan penilaian antara hasil perawatan ortodonti cekat antara teknik Begg dan teknik Edgewise dengan menggunakan American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System. Tiga belas model akhir gigi dan rontgen panoramik perawatan ortodonti cekat dengan teknik Begg dan teknik Edgewise diambil secara acak dan dinilai berdasarkan indeks American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System dengan menggunakan ABO measurement gauge. Hasil yang didapat diolah secara statistik dengan menggunakan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rerata kedua teknik dibawah skor 20 dan memenuhi standar indeks American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System. Hasil uji t diantara perawatan ortodonti cekat teknik Begg dan teknik Edgewise menunjukkan bahwa p<0,05 menunjukkan perbedaan bermakna. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah perawatan ortodonti cekat teknik Begg dan teknik Edgewise telah memenuhi standar indeks American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System, dan terdapat perbedaan penilaian antara hasil perawatan ortodonti cekat teknik Begg dan teknik Edgewise berdasarkan indeks American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System. Perbedaan antara kedua teknik terlihat pada alignment, marginal ridge, inklinasi bukolingual, dan angulasi akar gigi.

Orthodontic treatment is carried out when a malocclusion occurs that causing disruption in aesthetic and mastication function. Begg technique is an orthodontic bracket system that uses a round Australian wire which generates a light and continues force. The Edgewise technique use the rectangular wires to move the teeth in to three plane of space which will ensure the normal movement of the crown and root of the teeth. American Board Orthodontics Objective Grading System is an evaluation of tooth alignment and occlusion based on the assessment of reliable post treatment dental casts and panoramic radiographs. The aim of this research is to evaluate and compare the treatment results of Begg technique and Edgewise technique using American Board Orthodontics Objective Grading System. Thirteen post treatment dental casts and panoramic radiographs of Begg and Edgewise technique were taken by random sampling and evaluated according to the American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System index using ABO measurement gauge. The result were analysed statistically using t-test. The result of this research shows that both technique meets the standard of American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System index. The t-test results shows p<0,05 which means a significant difference. The conclusions of this research that Begg technique and Edgewise technique meets the standard of American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System index, and there is a significant difference of Begg and Edgewise technique according to American Board of Orthodontics Objective Grading System evaluation. The difference between the two system is found on alignment, marginal ridge, buccolingual incination, and root angulation.
