EFEK ANTI INFLAMASI MINYAK CENGKEH TERHADAP PERUBAHAN JUMLAH SEL RADANG PADA INFLAMASI AKUT JARINGAN LUNAK (Penelitian Eksperimental pada Tikus Wistar)

Inflamasi merupakan kondisi yang sering terjadi pada jaringan lunak dan menimbulkan rasa tidak nyaman dalam mulut. Penanganan dengan obat – obatan diperlukan untuk mengurangi atau menghilangkan inflamasi tersebut. Pengobatan menggunakan bahan herbal merupakan salah satu cara untuk mengurangi atau menghilangkan gejala inflamasi. Minyak cengkeh memiliki kandungan utama eugenol yang memiliki efek anti inflamasi yang bekerja dengan cara memodulasi infiltrasi sel radang neutrofil. Salah satu sel yang terlibat banyak dalam inflamasi akut yaitu sel radang neutrofil. Infiltrasi sel radang neutrofil harus dikendalikan supaya tidak berlanjut menjadi inflamasi kronis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek anti inflamasi minyak cengkeh terhadap perubahan jumlah sel radang pada inflamasi akut jaringan lunak tikus Wistar. Tiga puluh enam tikus Wistar dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok kemudian dibuat preparat histologisnya. Kelompok I: kelompok tikus tanpa diberi perlakuan. Kelompok II: kelompok tikus yang diberi aplikasi minyak cengkeh pada gingivanya. Kelompok III: tikus yang diinduksi inflamasi dengan cara inokulasi bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis tanpa diberi aplikasi minyak cengkeh. Kelompok IV: tikus yang diinduksi inflamasi kemudian diberi aplikasi minyak cengkeh. Pada hari ke-1, ke-3, dan ke-7 dibuat preparat histologisnya, kemudian dihitung dan dibandingkan jumlah sel neutrofilnya. Hasil dari penelitian tersebut dianalisis menggunakan two way ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan jumlah sel neutrofil yang signifikan (p<0,05) antar kelompok. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah minyak cengkeh memiliki efek anti inflamasi terhadap perubahan jumlah sel radang neutrofil pada inflamasi akut jaringan lunak tikus Wistar.

Inflammation is a condition that often found in soft tissue and create uncomfortable feeling in the mouth. Treatment with drugs are needed to reduce or eliminate the inflammation. Treatment using herbal ingredients is one way to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of inflammation. Clove oil contains eugenol as the major substance with anti-inflammatory effect which works by modulating inflammatory cell infiltration of neutrophils. Neutrophil is one of many cells involved in acute inflammation. Neutrophil cell infiltration must be controlled so that it would not progress to chronic inflammation. The purpose of this study is to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of clove oil towards the change in the number of inflammatory cells in acute inflammation of the soft tissues of Wistar rats. Thirty-six Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups to make its histological preparations. Group I: group of mice that were not being treated. Group II:group of mice that had clove oilapplied on the gingiva. Group III: group of micethat were inflammatory induced with Porphyromonas gingivalis bacterium inoculation without any application of clove oil. Group IV: group of mice that were inflammatoryinduced then given application of clove oil. The histological preparations were made on 1st, 3rd, and 7th day, and then calculated and compared to the number of neutrophil cells. The results from these studies were analyzed using a two way ANOVA. The results showed that there were significant differences in neutrophil cell amounts (p <0.05) between groups. The conclusion of this study is that clove oil has anti-inflammatory effect towards the change in the number of neutrophil inflammatory cells in acute inflammation of the soft tissues of Wistar rats.
