The Practice of 'Interpellation' Process in Veronica Roth's Divergent

Proses interpelasi merupakan suatu proses mempertahankan kekuasaan kelompok penguasa dengan cara melakukan transfer ideologi dari kelompok penguasa kepada subyek melalui RSAs dan ISAs dengan tujuan untuk membuat subyek menerima kesubyekan mereka secara suka rela. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan elemen-elemen dari proses interpelasi serta menemukan proses interpelasi yang terjadi dalam novel pertama dari trilogi Divergent yang berjudul Divergent karya Veronica Roth. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Teori Interpelasi oleh Louis Althusser. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah data teks berupa latar belakang sosial yang digambarkan dalam novel. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisa untuk mencari elemen-elemen dari proses interpelasi yang terjadi dan menemukan proses interpelasi yang terjadi dalam masyarakat Divergent. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan adanya proses interpelasi yang terjadi dari kelas penguasa kepada subyeknya melalui RSAs dan ISAs. Terbukti bahwa kelas penguasa menggunakan proses interpelasi untuk mempertahanan kekuasaanya.

Interpellation process is a process to maintain the Ruling Class dominance by transferring ideology from the Ruling Class to the subject through RSAs and ISAs with the intention to make the subject voluntarily accept their subjection. This research aims to describe the interpellation process and the elements of it in the first novel of Divergent trilogy entitled Divergent by Veronica Roth. The theory employed in this research is the Theory of Interpellation by Louis Althusser. The data used in this research are the social background depicted in the novel. The collected data are then analyzed to look for the elements of interpellation process and find out the interpellation that happens in Divergent. The result of this research shows that there is interpellation process from the ruling class to the subject through RSAs and ISAs. The ruling class indeed uses the interpellation process to maintain their dominance.
