The Word Formation Processes of English Slang Words Found in Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" Album

Penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengidentifikasi kata-kata slang dalam Bahasa Inggris yang ditemukan pada album Eminem "The Marshall Mathers LP". Penelitian ini secara khusus bertujuan untuk mengkategorikan kata-kata slang menurut proses pembentukan kata. Proses pembentukan kata berdasarkan kategori yang dikemukakan oleh Yule adalah coinage, compounding, clipping, blending, borrowing, back formation, acronyms, multiple process, derivation/affixation, dan conversion. Data yang digunakan adalah 104 kata-kata slang dalam Bahasa Inggris yang diambil dari lima lirik lagu dalam album tersebut. Hasil penelitian tersebut menunjukkan bahwa 63 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses coinage, 7 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses compounding, 13 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses clipping, 1 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses blending, 2 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses acronyms, 13 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses derivation/affixation, dan 5 kata slang dibentuk melalui proses multiple process. Tidak ada kata-kata slang yang dibentuk melalui proses borrowing, back formation, dan conversion. Proses coinage adalah proses pembentukan kata yang paling sering digunakan untuk membentuk kata-kata slang yang ditemukan pada lima lirik lagu dari album Eminem "The Marshall Mathers LP".

This research attempts to identify the English slang words found in the five song lyrics of Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" album. This research is particularly intended to categorize the slang words according to their word formation processes. The word formation processes based on Yule's categorization are coinage, compounding, clipping, blending, borrowing, back formation, acronyms, multiple process, derivation/affixation, and conversion. The data were 104 English slang words taken from five song lyrics of the album. The results of the research show that 63 slang words were created through coinage process, 7 slang words were created through compounding process, 13 slang words were created through clipping process, 1 slang word was created through blending process, 2 slang words were created through acronyms process, 13 slang words were created through derivation/affixation process, and 5 slang words were created through multiple process. There were no slang words created through borrowing, back formation, and conversion processes. Coinage process is the most often used word formation process to form the slang words found in five song lyrics of Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" album.
