THE ANALYSIS OF TRADE LIBERALIZATION ON ASEAN AGRICULTURAL EXPORT PERFORMANCE: PANEL DATA YEAR 1991-2013

Peran dari sektor pertanian khususnya di negara-negara ASEAN tertutupi dengan peran sektor2 antaralain sektor industri dan sektor servis. Namun, perhatian melalui liberalisasi perdagangan telah membangkitkan harapan untuk mebuka pasar terbuka untuk mendorong ekspor dari sektor pertanian di ASEAN. Di sisi lain, terdapat kekhawatiran terhadap potensi dampak negatif dari liberalisasi perdagangan untuk ekspor pertanian di kawasan ASEAN. Dengan demikian, skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa dampak dari liberalisasi perdagangan untuk ekspor pertanian ASEAN dengan menggunakan data panel sederhana dari tahun 1991-2013. Analisis penelitian ini dikembangkan dengan menggunakan data ekspor pertanian sebagai variabel dependen; menggunakan data indeks keterbukaan pertanian, data impor dan data tenaga kerja sebagai variabel independen untuk melengkapi analisa. Hasil empiris yang didapatkan pada penilitian ini menyatakan bahwa liberalisasi perdagangan signifikan dan memiliki hubungan positif terhadap ekspor pertanian di Negara-negara ASEAN.

Nowadays, It is clearly visible that the importance of the agricultural sector particularly in the ASEAN region has been overshadowed by the importance of other sectors such as industrialization and service sectors. But the recent revival of the agricultural sector has brought a major attention, particularly through trade liberalization, hoping that these would open markets to the agricultural exports. However, there exist large concerns regarding the potential negative impact of trade liberalization to the agricultural export in the ASEAN region. Thus, this thesis is concerned to examine the impact of trade liberalization to the ASEAN’s agricultural export by using simple panel data from the year 1991 to 2013. The Analysis of the research is developed by utilizing agricultural export as the dependent variable; using Agricultural Openness Index, Production, Import, and Employment Rate as the independent variables to complement the analysis. The empirical result of the study addressed that Agricultural Openness Index is significant and has a positive relationship to the agricultural export in the ASEAN region.
