Editing Steps of Book Manuscript Entitled Knowledge-Based System for Capturing CNC Operator Knowledge

Tugas akhir ini bertujuan untuk menyajikan pembahasan tentang langkah-langkah pengeditan naskah buku berjudul Knowledge-based System for Capturing CNC operator Knowledge. Selain itu, pembahasan dalam tugas akhir ini difokuskan untuk membahas latar belakang dari naskah, langkah-langkah pengeditan, dan contoh-contoh bagian-bagian yang diedit. Sebagaimana editor dari naskah adalah penulis, tugas akhir ini ditulis berdasarkan pengalaman langsung penulis. Kegiatan yang telah dilakukan oleh penulis selama mengedit naskah dan kesalahan yang ditemukan dalam naskah digunakan sebagai sumber untuk menulis tugas akhir ini. Kesalahan-kesalahan dalam naskah umumnya ditemukan dari hasil wawancara dengan penulis naskah. Wawancara ini dilakukan dalam Bahasa Indonesia (sebagai mana pengarang dan editor adalah orang Indonesia) yang menjadikan perlunya untuk menafsirkannya ke dalam bahasa Inggris. Maka dari itu, pengeditan ini melibatkan penafsiran dan penerjemahan. Beberapa teori yang ada dalam tugas akhir ini berdasarkan oleh pengalaman penulis dalam mengedit naskah dan didukung dengan beberapa sumber. Secara keseluruhan, beberapa pembahasan disajikan untuk menjawab tujuan yang disebutkan sebelumnya. Pembahasan tentang latar belakang naskah mencakup beberapa aspek. Pertama adalah pembahasan tentang penulis naskah yang bernama Wikan Sakarinto. Dia adalah Direktur dari Sekolah Vokasi Universitas Gajah Mada, Indonesia. Kedua adalah tentang naskah yang sudah diterbitkan. Naskah ini diterbitkan oleh Lambert Academic Publishing dan memuat empat bab. Yang terakhir adalah pembahasan tentang gambaran umun dari naskah. Gambaran umum ini adalah tentang software untuk menangkap pengetahuan operator CNC dan untuk mengurangi masalah diantara operator CAM dan operator CNC dalam proses permesinan CNC. Pembahasan tentang langkah-langkah pengeditan dibagi kedalam scanning and skimming, discussion, interpreting, analyzing, dan editing. Langkah-langkah ini diulangi sampai pengeditan selesai. Kemudian, langkah terakhir adalah proofreading. Pembahasan tentang contoh-contoh bagian-bagian yang diedit dikategorikan menjadi beberapa bagian. Pertama adalah parallelism yang dibagi menjadi parallelism related to verb form dan parallelism related to part of speech. Kedua adalah tenses yang dibagi menjadi tenses related to progressive tense, editing related to perfect tense, dan editing related to past tense. Ketiga adalah word choice yang dibagi menjadi word choice related to similar word, word choice related to idiom, word choice related to pronoun, word choice related to concluding word, word choice related to redundancy, dan word choice related to listing. Keempat adalah list and procedure yang dibagi menjadi editing list dan editing procedure. Terakhir adalah picture yang membahas tentang picture placement.

This graduating paper is aimed to present discussion on the editing steps of book manuscript entitled Knowledge-based System for Capturing CNC operator Knowledge. Furthermore, the discussion focuses on background information of the manuscript, editing steps, and examples on the edited parts. As the editor of the manuscript is the writer of this paper, the paper is based on the actual experience of the writer. The activities done by the writer in editing the manuscript and the errors found in the manuscript are used as sources for writing this paper. The errors are found mainly from the results of interview with the author of the manuscript. The interview was done in Bahasa Indonesia (as the author and the editor is Indonesian) which makes it needed to be interpreted into English. Therefore, the editing is involving interpretation and translation. Several theories in this paper is written based on the writer’s experiences in editing the manuscript and is backed up with several sources (work cited). All in all, several discussions are presented to answer the objectives mentioned previously. The discussion on the background information of the manuscript covers some aspects. The first is the author, Wikan Sakarinto. He is the Director of Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. Second is discussion on the published version of the manuscript. The book is published by Lambert Academic Publishing and it contains four chapters. The last is the discussion on general idea of the manuscript. The general idea is about software to capture CNC operator knowledge and to lessen gap between CAM operator and CNC operator in CNC machining process. The discussion on the editing steps is divided into scanning and skimming, discussion, interpreting, analyzing, and editing. These steps are repeated until the editing is done. Then, the last step is proofreading. The discussion on the examples of the edited parts is classified into some parts. First is parallelism which is divided into parallelism related to verb form and parallelism related to part of speech. Second is tenses which is divided into tenses related to progressive tense, editing related to perfect tense, and editing related to past tense. Third is word choice which is divided into word choice related to similar word, word choice related to idiom, word choice related to pronoun, word choice related to concluding word, word choice related to redundancy, and word choice related to listing. Fourth is list and procedure which is divided into editing list and editing procedure. The last is picture which is discussing the picture placement.
