The Implementation of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to Improve Product Quality (Case Study on Producer of Brown Sugar in Kulon Progo Regency)

2017 | Skripsi | MANAJEMENIt is widely known that the production of brown sugar in Kulon Progo Regency has been growing rapidly these days, with marked by the number of producers and market demand increases. However, the increasing of market demand for brown sugar is not in line with the awareness of producers about the importance of product quality and there is still a limitation on the production process. From this situation, this research is aimed to identify the attributes of the product quality brown sugar in Kulon Progo Regency that should be improve and determine the dimensions of quality that can be fulfilled by producers to meet the demands and needs of consumers based on the analysis result. Through the recent case of brown sugar producer in Kulon Progo Regency, this research is conducted by using the method of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) with the tools named House of Quality (HoQ). This research also using the primary data derived from the voice of company and consumers based on a statement in likert scales of 1 to 5. Moreover, the questionnaire used in this research is based on the literature study. Based on the research results with the used of Quality Function Deployment (QFD), the author found that the priority improvements based on dimensions of product quality that fits the consumer’s needs, which are; 1) brown package, 2) payment system, 3) brown sugar price, 4) brown sugar color, and 5) brown sugar durability. Furthermore, attributes of the company's voice, which best-conducted are; 1) Production cost, 2) Payment terms, 3) Taste consistency, 4) Colour Consistency, and 5) The packaging process. Based on these findings, the company is expected to improve the design of products that produce zero defects in brown sugar product.
Sudah diketahui secara umum bahwa produksi gula kelapa di Kabupaten Kulon Progo telah berkembang pesat dewasa ini, dengan ditandai oleh jumlah produsen dan permintaan pasar meningkat. Namun, meningkatnya jumlah permintaan gula kelapa tidak sejalan dengan kesadaran produsen akan pentingnya kualitas dari produk tersebut dan masih terdapat keterbatasan terhadap proses produksi. Dari situasi tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi atribut kualitas produk gula kelapa di Kabupaten Kulon Progo yang harus diperbaiki serta menentukan dimensi kualitas yang bisa dipenuhi oleh produsen, sehingga dapat memenuhi permintaan dan kebutuhan konsumen berdasarkan hasil analisis. Melalui kasus produsen gula kelapa di Kabupaten Kulon Progo tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode Quality Function Deployment (QFD) dengan alat berupa House of Quality (HoQ) dan dengan menggunakan data primer yang berasal dari suara perusahaan dan suara konsumen berdasarkan pernyataan dengan skala likert 1-5. Kuesioner yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dibuat berdasarkan studi literatur. Dari hasil penelitian dengan menggunakan House of Quality (HoQ), penulis menemukan bahwa prioritas perbaikan yang berdasarkan dimensi kualitas produk yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan konsumen, yaitu; 1) brown package, 2) Payment System, 3) brown sugar price, 4) brown sugar colour, dan 5) brown sugar durability. Selanjutnya, atribut suara perusahaan yang paling baik dilakukan, yaitu; 1) Production cost, 2) Payment terms, 3) Taste consistency, 4) Colour Consistency, dan 5) The packaging process. Berdasarkan penemuan tersebut, perusahaan diharapkan dapat memperbaiki desain produk yang menghasilkan zero defects pada produk gula kelapa.
