The Devil and Miss Prym karangan Paulo Coelho adalah novel yang menarik, tidak hanya mengeksplorasi sifat asli kemanusian, namun juga memiliki makna ekstra. Di permukaan, cerita ini menyalin kehidupan biasa masyarakat desa Viscos yang tiba-tiba digoncang oleh kedatangan orang asing dan entah bagaimana membuat mereka bersusah payah dengan pertanyaan mengenai kehidupan, kematian, dan kekuasaan. Sementara itu, cerita ini akan mengingatkan pembaca dengan teks penciptaan bab tiga (cerita Taman Eden) seperti yang tertulis dalam Injil. Dengan demikian, menjadi hal yang penting untung menguji kedua struktur teks untuk menentukan hubungan keduanya. Studi ini mencoba untuk menguji alegori dalam The Devil and Miss Prym. Untuk mengembangkan analisis studi, pendekatan formalism digunakan untuk membatasi diskusi hanya pada karakter dan setting. Untuk mendukung analisis, penelitian perpustakaan maupun sumber lain dari laman internet yang dapat dipertanggung jawabkan dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data. Studi ini menemukan bahwa melalui alegori, kemiripan antara The Devil and Miss Prym dan Genesis bab 3 nampak jelas. Pengarang telah membuat teks sebagai cerita allegori untuk menegaskan makna yang tersembunyi. Kata Kunci: formalisme, bentuk, alegori, Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho The Devil and Miss Prym (2001) is a stunning novel that explores not only the true face of humankind, but also has an extra level of interpretation. On the surface, the story copies the ordinary life of a remote community in the Viscos village that is suddenly shaken up by a stranger visit and make them struggle with the questions of good and evil. Meanwhile, this story will reminds the reader to the text of Genesis chapter 3 (the story of Garden of Eden) as written in the Bible. Therefore, it is important to examine the structure of both texts to determine their connection. This study attempts to examine the allegory in The Devil and Miss Prym. To develop the analysis of the study, the formalism approach is applied to border the discussion only in characters and setting. To support the analysis, the library research is conducted to collect the data, as well as other sources from reliable website. The result shows that through allegory, the resemblance between The Devil and Miss Prym and Genesis chapter 3 is perceptible. The author has set the text as an allegorical story in order to emphasize the ulterior meaning. Key Words: formalism, form, allegory, Paulo Coelho
