The Sense of Fulfillment: The Dynamics of Millennial Women's Career Engagement

Sebagai generasi muda yang memadati dunia kerja saat ini, mereka memiliki karateristik dan prioritas yang paling inginkan (seperti, pengembangan diri dan karir) dalam kehidupan kerja. Oleh karena itu, karir yang sifatnya tradisional tidak mampu dalam menjelaskan perilaku dalam berkarir pada generasi muda ini. Untuk itu, penting dalam memahami career engagement pada generasi muda ini. Dalam memahami makna tersirat dari para wanita generasi milenial yang berkarir ini, digunakan pendekatan kualitatif berbasis fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan wawancara mendalam. Tiga partisipan wanita karir generasi milenial diseleksi melalui teknik networking. Analisis data dilakukan melalui empat proses, yakni epoche, phenomenological reduction, imaginative variation, dan synthesis of the meaning. Penggunaan member checking dan triangulasi dilakukan untuk mevalidasi keterpercayaan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat dua tema yang dapat menjelaskan wanita generasi milenial yang terikat pada karir. Kedua tema yang dimaksud adalah mendambakan identitas dan memperjuangkan harmoni. Makna dari keterikatan pada karir bagi wanita generasi milenial adalah adanya rasa kepuasan yang mengarah pada kualitas kehidupan kerja.
The study was aimed to understand the lived experiences among millennial generation of career women about their career engagement. As the young generations who were now filling the world of work, they possessed different characteristics and priority they highlighted most (i.e., self-development and career-advancement) in their working life. They were revealed to be likely to move from one employer to another employer. Consequently, the traditional career could not fill the gap of the generational shifting. Therefore, it was essential to study about career engagement of millennial women. To understand the essence beyond; a qualitative phenomenological design was employed. Data was gathered by utilizing an in-depth interview. Three participants of millennial career women were selected via networking. Data was analyzed through the four processes, which were epoche, phenomenological reduction, imaginative variation, and synthesis of the meaning. Member checking and triangulation were employed to check the trustworthiness of data. Two themes revealed as the findings, which were craving for identity and striving for harmony. The essence of millennial women was sense of fulfillment to flourish the quality of work life.
