Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberi kontribusi bagi literatur keuangan, khususnya struktur modal, dengan menguji faktor penentu leverage perusahaan di Indonesia. Sebagai tambahan, untuk memberikan bukti empiris dari krisis keuangan global 2007/2008 yang terjadi dalam periode penelitian. Penelitian ini menerapkan estimator Generalized Least Squares dengan pendekatan Fixed effect dalam mengestimasi model data panel sebagai pengganti estimator Ordinary Least Squares dikarenakan terdapat masalah heteroskedastisitas dan serial correlation dalam model. Sampel penelitian sejumlah seratus empat puluh perusahaan diperoleh menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Hasil temuan penelitian memberikan bukti empiris bahwa enam variabel independen dalam model signifikan secara statistik dan satu variabel tidak signifikan. Peneliti juga menemukan bukti empiris bahwa krisis keuangan global yang terjadi mempengaruhi faktor-faktor penentu leverage di Indonesia.

The purpose of this research paper is to contribute to the financial literature, capital structure, by examining the determinants of leverage in Indonesia. In addition, to provide evidence of the effects of the 2007/2008 global financial crisis on firm-level determinants of leverage, which happened in the middle of research period. This research applies the Generalized Least Squares estimator with Fixed effect approach in order to estimate the panel data model instead of using the Ordinary Least Squares due to the existence of heteroskedasticity and serial correlation. Samples were collected through purposive sampling technique. The findings of this paper provides evidence that six independent variables in the model are statistically significant and one variable otherwise. The researcher also find evidence of the effect of the financial crisis on firm-level determinants of leverage in Indonesia.
