THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SIDEKICKS TO THE PLOT OF J.K. ROWLING'S HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS

Skripsi ini membahas penelitian tentang pengaruh teman karib di dalam novel terakhir serial Harry Potter karya JK Rowling yang berjudul Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk membandingkan pengaruh kedua teman karib terhadap alur cerita dan peran mereka kepada karakter utama. Skripsi ini menerapkan pendekatan objektif dan teori tokoh dan perwatakan oleh M.H. Abrams dan teori alur cerita oleh Gustav Freytag. Skripsi ini juga menerapkan teori peranan teman karib oleh Ron Buchanan. Penelitian pustaka adalah metode penelitian skripsi ini dan jurnal-jurnal yang mendukung juga digunakan dalam penulisan skripsi ini. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan meskipun peran kedua teman karib adalah sebagai rekan karakter utama, tindakan-tindakan Hermione Granger lebih berpengaruh ke dalam alur cerita dibandingkan dengan Ron Weasley karena kecerdasan dan loyalitas Hermione Granger kepada karakter utama.

This undergraduate thesis discusses a research about the significance of sidekick in J.K. Rowling's final novel of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The focus of this undergraduate thesis is to compare the significance of the two sidekicks in driving the plot of the novel and their role to the central character. This paper applies objective approach and theory of character and characterization by M.H. Abrams and theory of plot by Gustav Freytag. This paper also applies theory of role of the sidekicks by Ron Buchanan. The library research is the method in writing this paper and supporting journals are used in supporting to write this paper. The result of this research depicts that even though both the sidekicks' role is as a companion to the central character, Hermione Granger's actions are more significant than Ron Weasley's in driving the plot because of her cleverness and loyalty to the central character.
