Billie Joe Armstrong's Protest As Seen in Green Day's Song Lyrics

Penelitian ini menganalisis lirik-lirik lagu yang ditulis oleh penyanyi dan penulis lagu Billie Joe Armstrong dari band punk Amerika bernama Green Day menggunakan pendekatan ekspresif. Lagu-lagu tersebut adalah Holiday, Favorite Son, 21 Guns dan American Eulogy. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis hubungan diantara lagu-lagu Billie Joe dengan perang Irak dan menggali perasaan Billie Joe serta sudut pandangnya terhadap perang Irak. Pendekatan ekspresif digunakan karena analisis penelitian ini berurusan dengan arti lirik-lirik lagu dan ekspresi Billie Joe melalui lagu-lagunya. Metode dari penelitian ini adalah penelitian pustaka. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perang Irak mempengaruhi Billie Joe untuk membawa isu-isu politik di lagu-lagunya dan Billie Joe menggunakan lagu-lagu tersebut sebagai media untuk memprotes perang.

This research analyzes song lyrics that composed by a singer and songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong from American punk band called Green Day using the expressive approach. Those songs are Holiday, Favorite Son, 21 Guns and American Eulogy. The objectives of this study are to analyze the relation between Billie Joe�s songs and the Iraqi War and to dig out the feeling of Billie Joe and his point of view about Iraqi war. The expressive approach is applied because the analysis deals with the song lyrics� meaning and Billie Joe�s expressions through his song lyrics. The method of this study is library research. The result of this study shows that the Iraq War influenced Billie Joe to brought political issues to his song lyrics and Billie Joe used those song lyrics as a media to protest against war.
