The research of preparation of composite chitosan-pectin beads crosslinked with sulphuric acid for adsorption-desorption process of indigo carmine has been conducted. Beads were prepared by mixing chitosan pectin in an aqueous medium and characterized by FTIR, SEM, stability test in alkaline and acid medium, and water absorption test. Adsorption activity test of pectin chitosan beads was including variations of ratio chitosan and pectin, optimum contact time, pH, variation concentration of indigo carmine, adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherm and beads desorption test in NaCl and acid base condition. FTIR and SEM results indicated that the beads were successfully synthesized by the changes of the beads surface. Adsorption of chitosan-pectin beads in ratio 90:10 showed the highest adsorption capability of the indigo carmine solution. The optimum adsorption contact time was obtained in minutes 420 by 60.20 mg/g. The mechanical properties of beads increased by the cross-linked with sulfuric acid and beads were stable at acidic conditions. The optimum adsorption pH of indigo carmine was 5 with the capacity 56.41 mg/g. The result of the concentration variation was 88.44 mg/g at a concentration of 600 mg/L. Indigo carmine adsorption kinetics follows the pseudo second order reaction and the isotherms adsorption were correlated with the model of Langmuir. Adsorption percentage of NaCl 1 and 0.1 M were 16.03% and 9.95%, while at pH 2 and 12 were 6,71% and 1,80%. Keywords: Chitosan, pectin, sulphuric acid, adsorption-desorption, indigo carmine
