SOKOLA RIMBA KARYA BUTET MANURUNG: ANALISIS TOKOH DAN MOTIVASI KARAKTER MENURUT ROBERT STANTON

INTISARI Penelitian ini menggunakan novel Sokola Rimba karya Butet Manurung sebagai objek material dan teori struktural Robert Stanton sebagai objek formal. Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan, tujuan teoretis dan tujuan praktis. Tujuan teoretis penelitian adalah memberikan penjelasan tentang tokoh dan motivasi karakter yang ada dalam novel Sokola Rimba. Tujuan praktis penelitian ini adalah memberikan manfaat dan memudahkan pembaca dalam proses pemahaman mengenai tokoh dan motivasi karakter dalam novel Sokola Rimba. Tujuan tersebut diharapkan tercapai dengan menggunakan teori struktural menurut Robert Stanton mengenai tokoh dan motivasi karakter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu tokoh utama dan tokoh bawahan. Tokoh utama terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu tokoh utama protagonis dan tokoh utama antagonis. Tokoh utama protagonis dalam novel Sokola Rimba adalah tokoh Aku. Tokoh Aku sebagai karakter utama memiliki berbagai macam karakter, yaitu tidak mudah putus asa, sabar, dermawan, cerdas, dan lain-lain. Tokoh utama antagonis dalan novel Sokola Rimba adalah Tauke Kayu. Tokoh bawahan dalam novel Sokola Rimba antara lain: Cerinay, Tauke Kayu, Linca, Gentar, Dodi, Indit, Oceu, dan Willy. Tokoh tambahan dalam novel Sokola Rimba antara lain; Bedinding Besi, Indok Terenong, Ibu Pariyan, Besudu, dan lain-lain. Tokoh Aku sebagai tokoh utama memiliki beberapa motivasi, yaitu motivasi dasar dan motivasi khusus. Motivasi khusus tokoh Aku, yaitu ketika tokoh Aku pertama kali datang ke Rimba, ketika tokoh Aku memutuskan keluar dari WARSI, ketika tokoh Aku mulai sibuk persiapan kuliah S2, ketika tokoh Aku dan rekan-rekannya memulai lembaga baru bernama SOKOLA, dan ketika Sokola Rimba mulai berkembang. Motivasi dasar tokoh Aku, yaitu memberikan pendidikan di daerah pedalaman. Sebagai tokoh utama, tokoh Aku mengalami berbagai macam perkembangan karakter yang menjadikannya memiliki karakter baru, yaitu sabar, tangguh, dan pesimis. Berdasarkan analisis terhadap tokoh dan motivasi karakter dalam novel Sokola Rimba, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengarang novel ini berhasil mengajak pembaca memaknai pentingnya pendidikan bagi manusia. Selain itu, dengan novel ini, penggarang berharap bahwa program pendidikan pemerintah mampu menjangkau daerah-daerah pelosok negeri ini. ABSTRACT This study uses a novel Sokola Rimba by Butet Manurung as a material object and Robert Stanton structure theory as a formal object. This study has two goals, theoretical purposes and practical purposes. The theoretical purpose of study to provide explanation of the character and character's motivation in the Sokola Rimba's novel. Practical purpose of this study is to provide benefits and allows reader in the process to understand the aspect of the character and character's motivation in the Sokola Rimba's novel. These objectives are expected to be achieved by using structure theory of Robert Stanton about character and character's motivation. The research result shows that the character devided into two part that is the main character and the subordinate character. The main character devided into two part that is the main character protagonist and the main character antagonist. The main character protagonist of Sokola Rimba's novel is Aku. Aku as a main character have a lot of character that is not easy discouraged, patient, generous, intelligent, etc. The main character antagonist of Sokola Rimba's novel is Tauke Kayu. The subordinate characters of Sokola Rimba's novel is Cerinay, Tauke Kayu, Gentar, Linca, Dodi, Oceu, Indit, and Willy. The additional characters of Sokola Rimba's novel is Bediding Besi, Indok Terenong, Ibu Pariyan, Besudu, etc. Aku as a main character have some motivation, that is special motivation and basic motivation. The special motivation of Aku is when Aku first came to the jungle, when Aku ruled resign from WARSI, when Aku getting busy to prepare the magister lecture, when Aku and her friends start a new institution named SOKOLA, and when SOKOLA began to forward. The basic motivation of Aku is provided education in rural areas. As a main character, Aku experiencing a wide variety of character development that makes it have new character that is patient, tough, and pessimistic. Based analysis of character and character's motivation in the Sokola Rimba's novel can be conclude that grates this novel success invites the readers to interpret the importance of education for human. Other than that with this novel, the grates hope that education program from government can reach the rural areas in this country.
