Pompa lumpur merupakan peralatan utama dalam sistem sirkulai pada rig. Pompa diibaratkan jantung dalam sistem sirkulasi tersebut. Fungsi utama dari pompa lumpur adalah untuk memompa lumpur pengeboran dari tangki ke lubang pengeboran dengan tekanan yang tinggi. Oleh karena itu, perlu diperhatikan mengenai pengoperasi yang baik serta penerapan pemeliharaan yang tepat pada pompa lumpur tersebut, sehingga pompa dapat menjalankan fungsinya dengan baik serta bisa memiliki umur yang lebih lama. Penelitian ini menjelaskan bagaimana cara pengoperasian yang baik dan pemeliharaan yang dilakukan pada pompa lumpur di rig. Masalah yang sering terjadi dilapangan, khususnya pada pompa lumpur. Ada beberapa metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Yang pertama adalah metode observasi, itu berarti pengamatan langsung ke objek. Yang kedua adalah metode literatur, itu berarti catatan atau menggunakan data dari perpustakaan. Yang ketiga adalah metode wawancara, itu berarti melakukan wawancara dan mencari informasi. Yang keempat adalah metode dokumentasi, itu berarti pengumpulan data dengan mendokumentasikan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ada empat langkah dari cara pengoperasian yang baik dari pompa lumpur yaitu langkah persiapan, langkah start up, langkah operasi dan langkah pemberhentian. Charging pump adalah peralatan penting dalam pengoperasian pompa lumpur. Metode pemeliharaan pompa lumpur yang digunakan adalah preventive maintenance, schedule maintenance dan breakdown maintenance. Bagian-bagian ekspendable pompa lumpur sering terjadi kerusakan dikarenakan komposisi lumpur yang tidak sesuai.

Mud pump is the main equipment in the circulation system on the rig, the pump is like the heart in the circulation system. Its main function is to pump drilling mud from mud tank to drill holes with high pressure. Therefore we need to consider the good operation and application of rig maintenance, so the pump can perform its functions properly and has a longer lifetime. The research describes how to do a good operation and maintenance of mud pump on the rig. What problems occure at the field, specially on mud pump. There are some methods used in this study. The firstisthe method of observation, it means the direct observation to the object. The second is the method of literature, it means record or use the data from the library. The third is the method of interview, it means conducting interviews and searching for information. The fourth is the method of documentation, it means of data collection by documenting. The result of the research are four steps of a good operation of mud pump, the are the preparation step, start up step, operation step and stoping step. The charging pump is the important equipment in the operation of mud pump. The maintenance methode of the mud pump is preventive maintenance, schedule maintenance and breackdown maintenance. The expendable part of mud pump often having problem becauses of the material drilling mud is not suitable.
