Tema yang diangkat dalam tugas akhir ini adalah perbandingan dampak sosial yang ditimbulkan oleh dua forum internet, yaitu 2channel (Jepang) dan 4chan (Amerika). Alasan pemilihan tema tersebut adalah karena belum banyak penelitian tentang dampak sosial internet yang terfokus pada website tertentu. Penulis memilih kedua forum internet tersebut untuk dianalisis karena: 2channel adalah salah satu forum dunia maya terbesar di Jepang dengan jumlah pengunjung tak kurang dari delapan juta per hari, sedangkan 4chan merupakan website turunan 2channel yang terbesar dan masih bertahan sampai saat ini. Tujuan penulisan tugas akhir ini adalah untuk membuktikan teori tentang dampak sosial internet melalui pembahasan kasus yang diambil dari 2channel dan 4chan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Objek penelitian dalam tugas akhir ini adalah utas-utas dan komentar pada masing-masing utas dalam 2channel dan 4chan, yang diambil dalam periode 1 Januari sampai 30 September 2014. Buku, jurnal, video, dan artikel yang diunduh dari internet juga digunakan sebagai referensi pendukung. Hasil analisis kasus menunjukkan teori tentang dampak sosial internet terhadap penggunanya adalah terbukti sebagian. Dampak yang terbukti adalah: 1) dampak positif, terlihat dalam hubungan antara pengguna dengan komunitas, orang lain, dan diri sendiri, 2) dampak negatif, terlihat dalam hubungan antara pengguna dengan orang lain dan masyarakat. Dampak yang tidak terbukti adalah dampak terhadap hubungan pengguna dengan keluarga dan teman.

The theme of this final paper is the comparison of the social impact caused by two Internet forums, namely 2channel (Japan) and 4chan (USA). The reason for choosing this theme is because there are only a few researches conducted on the impact of the Internet that focuses on a particular website. The author chooses the Internet forums to be analyzed because: 2channel is one of Japan's largest virtual worlds with the number of visitors is not less than eight million per day, while 4chan is the largest 2channel derivative that still survives to this day. The purpose of the study is to prove the theory about social impact of the Internet through the discussion of cases taken from 2channel and 4chan. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The object of this research are threads and its comments taken from 2channel and 4chan, limited only on the thread posted during January 1st and September 30th, 2014. The data collected from books, journals, videos, and articles are used as the supporting reference. The result of the analysis shows that the theory of social impact of the Internet is only partially proven. The proven impacts are: 1) positive impact, found on the relationship between the user and communities, outsiders, and the user itself, 2) negative impact, found on the relationship between the user and outsiders and society. The unproven impact is the impact on the user relationship with family and friends.
