KAJIAN STRATEGI ADAPTASI PETANI APEL TERHADAP VARIABILITAS CURAH HUJAN DAN SUHU DI KOTA BATU, PROVINSI JAWA TIMUR

Kota Batu merupakan salah satu sentra penghasil apel di Indonesia. Permasalahan sektor pertanian khususnya tanaman apel tidak terlepas dari adanya variabilitas iklim, terutama variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengetahuan petani apel di Kota Batu mengenai variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu yang terjadi saat ini; mengidentifikasi persepsi, peranserta dan perilaku yang dilakukan petani apel terkait variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu yang terjadi di Kota Batu; dan mengkaji bentuk strategi adaptasi petani apel dalam menghadapi variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu di Kota Batu. Penelitian ini mempergunakan metode survey dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 80 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan petani mengenai variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu dan adaptasi terhadap variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu diperoleh berdasarkan informasi dari media televisi, radio, koran dan dari sesama petani, bahkan ada yang merasakan sendiri. Sebanyak 42 responden petani pernah mendengar dan mengetahui tentang variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu, sedangkan sebanyak 25 responden petani pernah mendengar tapi kurang mengetahui mengenai variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu, dan sebanyak 13 responden menyatakan tidak pernah mengetahui. Persepsi petani terhadap variabilitas curah hujan dan suhu dalam mempengaruhi budidaya tanaman apel mempunyai persepsi yang tinggi yaitu sebesar 83,75%, dan sebanyak 16,25% yang mempunyai persepsi sedang. Dari tingkat pengetahuan dan persepsi petani tersebut maka didapatkan bentuk strategi adaptasi yang selama ini telah dilakukan oleh para petani apel di Kota Batu, yaitu: (a) Mengubah cara perawatan dan pemeliharaan tanaman, seperti pengolahan tanah, perbaikan sistem drainase, dan pengaturan pemberian pestisida secara tepat dan sesuai dengan kondisi tanaman; (b) Mengubah teknik budidaya; (c) Melakukan tumpangsari; dan (d) Pembuatan pohon penegak untuk penghalang hama dan penyakit.

Batu city is one of the centers of the apple producers in Indonesia. Problems of the agricultural sector especially the apple crop is inseparable from the existence of climate variability, especially the variability of rainfall and temperature. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of apple farmers in Batu regarding rainfall and temperature variability that occurs at this time; identify perceptions, participation and behavior made apple farmers related variability in precipitation and temperature that occur in Batu; and reviewing forms of adaptation strategies in the face of apple growers rainfall and temperature variability in Batu. This study uses a survey method with number of respondents as many as 80 people. The results showed that farmers’s knowledge about rainfall and temperature variability and adaptation to temperature and rainfall variability obtained based on information from the media of television, radio, newspapers and from fellow farmers, some even do themselves. As many as 42 respondents farmers have heard and known about the variability of rainfall and temperatures, while as many as 25 respondents farmers heard but less known about the variability of rainfall and temperature, and as many as 13 respondents said they never know. Farmer perception of temperature and rainfall variability in influencing the cultivation of apples have a high perception of which of 83.75% and as much as 16.25% has the perception of moderate. From the level of knowledge and perception of the farmers obtained a form of adaptation strategies that had been done by apple growers in Batu city, such as: (a) Changing the way to care and maint of the plant, such as tillage, improvements to the drainage system, and setting up provision of pesticides appropriately and in accordance with the conditions of the plants; (b) Changing the cultivation technique; (d) do intercropping; and (e) Making enforcement for barrier tree pests and diseases.
