Warok Ponorogo pada masa sebelum tahun 1993 merupakan bagian penting dalam kebudayaan masyarakat Ponorogo, sekaligus tokoh penting dalam perkembangan kesenian reyog Ponorogo. Warok adalah tokoh yang dianggap memiliki kelebihan dalam kemampuan fisik dan psikisnya, menjadi panutan dan guru informal bagi masyarakat sekitarnya, penasehat spiritual bagi penduduk di sekitar dia tinggal. Warok adalah bagian dari tiang penopang eksistensi pertunjukan kesenian reyog, khususnya reyog yang dimainkan secara obyog. Seiring berkembangnya kebutuhan masyarakat yang kompleks dalam hal kebutuhan hidup maupun pemenuhan kebutuhan estetik, keberadaan warok di Kabupaten Ponorogo menjadi semakin langka. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, keberlangsungan dan pergeseran peran warok dalam kehidupan masyarakat Ponorogo serta dalam pertunjukan reyog Ponorogo disebabkan oleh faktor ekstern dan faktor intern masyarakat Ponorogo. Kebutuhan pemenuhan ekonomi, persentuhan dengan kebudayaan dari daerah lain, perkembangan dunia seni pertunjukan, beratnya syarat menjadi warok, perkembangan agama Islam dan kebutuhan identitas pemerintah daerah setempat adalah hal-hal yang mendorong peran warok menjadi bergeser dari tokoh panutan secara sosial menjadi peran warok sebagai bagian dari presentasi estetis pertunjukan reyog

Warok Ponorogo during prior to 1993 is an important part of community culture in Ponorogo, as well as important figures in the development of the reyog Ponorogo performances. Warok is a character who is considered to have advantages in physical ability and psikis, being a role model and teacher for the community surrounding the informal, spiritual advisor for the people around him lived. Warok is part of the stanchion existence reyog performances, especially in reyog obyog performances. As the evergrowing needs of the community are complex in terms of the necessities of life as well as the fulfillment of the needs of aesthetics, existence of warok in Ponorogo is becoming increasingly rare. Based on the results of research conducted, the sustainability and so shift warok role in social life Ponorogo as well as in the performance of reyog Ponorogo caused by a factor of ekstern and internal factors society Ponorogo.The needs of the fulfillment of economic contiguity with culture than other regions, the development of performing arts, weighs condition of being warok, the development of the religion of Islam and the needs of the identity of local government is the things that drive the role of warok being shifted from the figure a role model socially be the role of warok as part of the slideshow æsthetical reyog performances.
