American Dream as Seen in Will Eisner’s Dropsie Avenue:The Neighborhood

Skripsi ini menganalisis buku Will Eisner, yaitu \"Dropsie Avenue: The Neighborhood\". Buku ini menyajikan topik mengenai tema American Dream dan isu isu sosial disekitarnya seperti: korupsi, nepotisme, keserakahan, rasisme, anti semitisme, depresi, imigrasi, kekerasan dan kejahatan bersamaan dengan penggambaran dari sejarah perubahan metamorfosis dari sebuah jalan di kota New York dan masyarakatnya, sebuah kisah dari kematian dan kembali hidupnya sebuah lingkungan dimana masyarakatnya membangun sebuah kota dan sebuah Negara. Skripsi ini menggunakan pendekatan ekspresif karena pendekatan tersebut merupakan pendekatan yang paling cocok digunakan untuk mempelajari kisah hidup pengarangnya melalui bukunya.Untuk mendukung analisa secara keseluruhan, studi pustaka dilakukan pada skripsi ini. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman hidup dari Will Eisner sangat mempengaruhi bagaimana cara dia menulis cerita Dropsie Avenue, sebuah karya yang dia dedikasikan untuk kota kelahirannya.

This graduating paper analyzes Will Eisner book, “Dropsie Avenue: The Neighborhood”. These book present a theme of American Dream and its social issues: corruption, nepotism, greed, racism, anti Semitism, depression, immigration, violence, and crime together with the portrays of the historical metamorphosis of a single New York Street and its people, the saga of the death and rebirth of a neighbourhood where the society built a city and a nation. The primary objective of this research is to find evidences to prove that there is a connection between the themes of American dream in the book with life of Will Eisner as the writer. This graduating paper applies expressive approach since it is the most suitable approach to use to study the author’s experience of his life through his book. To support the whole analysis, library research was conducted. The result of the analysis shows that the life experience of Will Eisner gives a lot influence to the way he wrote the story of Dropsie Avenue: The Neighborhood, a work that he dedicates to his own hometown.
