Lied German adalah komposisi musik vokal German, memiliki tiga bentuk lagu: strophic, through-composed dan song cycle. Masuk ke Indonesia, dibawa oleh Bangsa Belanda pada abad16. Keberadaannya memberi inspirasi bagi para pencipta lagu bangsa Indonesia, sehingga berpengaruh terhadap lahirnya lagu seriosa. Lagu seriosa adalah komposisi musik vokal Indonesia, sebagai adaptasi lied German. Lahir di Indonesia tahun 1930-an, dipelopori oleh Cornel Simanjuntak. Lagu seriosa mengandung nuansa musik Nusantara, dan idiom musik Indonesia. Sarat dengan muatan budaya, historis, dan nilai nasionalisme Indonesia. Karenanya menjadi lagu khas Indonesia, dan sebuah genre musik di Indonesia. Pasang surut sejarah perkembangan lagu seriosa, sangat dipengaruhi oleh perkembangan situasi politik, sosial dan teknologi di Indonesia. Dalam hal ini kebijakan pemerintah pada masa-masa tertentu, kondisi pendidikan musik, perkembangan application music technology dan media elektronik berpengaruh terhadapnya. Lagu seriosa hingga kini masih menjadi media pembelajaran musik vokal yang efektif di pendidikan tinggi maupun sekolah musik negeri dan suasta. Dikarenakan kandungan nilai artistik yang khas Indonesia dan teknik produksi suaranya menggunakan dua gaya bernyanyi Jerman dan Itali. Hingga kini masih eksis pada pergelaran musik klasik, walaupun tidak menjadi sajian utama. Lagu seriosa merupakan jenis musik seni untuk seni, yang diutamakan adalah nilai artistik bukan nilai finansial. Jenis kesenian seperti ini, kelastarian dan pengembangannya menjadi tanggung jawab pemerintah. Berbeda dengan jenis lagu hiburan, yang diutamakan adalah selera masyarakat dan nilai finansial. Kelestarian dan pengembangannya, bisa ditopang oleh masyarakat

Lied German are German vocal compositions which have three music forms: strophic, through-composed and song-cycle. The music was introduced to Indonesia by the Dutch in the sixteenth century. The music inspired many Indonesian song writers, and gave contribution to the birth of seriosa music. Seriosa music is Indonesian vocal composition, an adaptation of Lied German. Born in 1930s, the music was pioneered by Cornel Simanjuntak. Seriosa songs are colored by Indonesian ethnic music and Indonesian music idioms. The songs are rich of Indonesian cultural, historical, and national values. Infact, the music has been part of Indonesian’s identity, one of music genres in Indonesia. The ups and downs of seriosa music development have been very much affected by the political and social situations, also technology. For examples: the government’s policy, the condition of music education, the development of music technology and electronic media. Seriosa songs have been an effective media for learning vocal music in secondary or tertiary education, both of public and private. First, it is because the songs have Indonesian artistic values, and secondly, because the vocal production combines two singing techniques, German and Italian. Today, though the songs are not the main part of classic music concert, but they do exist. Seriosa song is a type of art music for art which puts forward the artistic values rather than the financial. The preservation and the development of the art are the responsibility of the government. It is very different with the popular song which counts on the public taste and the financial matters. The preservation and the development of the music can also be supported by the society
