Two-phase interleaved buck converter becomes one of the dc-dc converter topologies functioned to a step-down dc voltage level. It is commonly used because it can handle ripple cancellation with a 180° phase shift. Due to the soft-switching condition, this converter dedicated to the low power level with CRM operation mode is more beneficial than operating in CCM mode. However, CRM mode produces a ripple higher than in CCM mode. In addition, the non-ideal inductor characteristic makes the interleaving process challenging to achieve. Consequently, its condition causes the phase shift can be not maintained, so the ripple cancellation fails. This research proposes a control to solve problems caused by non-ideal inductor characteristics in the interleaved buck converter for obtaining ripple cancellation and CRM operation mode with soft-switching conditions. The proposed control adopts a constant current method modelled in LTspice software and validates with a hardware prototype. For all tests, the proposed control offers several advantages. It can handle non-ideal inductor characteristics in a two-phase interleaved buck converter. As a result, the proposed control can achieve an interleaving process by maintaining a 180° phase shift to conduct the ripple cancellation. In addition, interleaved buck converter can operate on CRM mode and obtains soft-switching conditions. The proposed control has been implemented on a digital device at the ARM Cortex level with STM32F103C8T6.
