Microgrid is one of the innovations in electrical power systems. It usually has renewable energy-based power generation, such as solar energy, biomass, wind, water, or other potential. At the Electric Power Engineering Laboratory of DTETI FT UGM, there has been a microgrid testbed system. That system is a prototype form of the microgrid. Currently, the microgrid testbed system consists of 1 synchronous generator, 2 induction generators, and 3 induction motors as prime movers. These generators represent renewable energy-based power generation in the microgrid. Based on these things, the idea emerged to develop the microgrid testbed system by adding a solar-based power generation in the form of photovoltaic (PV) panel. As an initial stage, in this final project a PV simulator will be designed so that it can produce current and voltage outputs like conventional PV products. The PV simulator has the advantage that the environmental condition parameters can be set by the user so that it does not depend on real environmental conditions like conventional PV products. In this final project, the design of the PV simulator is made to imitates PV that is not connected to the microgrid system. The PV simulator model is made using a half-bridge buck converter with a proportional integral control system. In this final project, the product specification of PV 100 W used as reference. The PV simulator was tested to determine the effect of irradiance and temperature on the current and voltage output. The test is carried out by incerasing the load resistance value of buck converter . From the test results, the values of current and voltage generated by the PV simulator can be represented as current and voltage characteristic curves (I-V curve) and power and voltage (P-V curve). From the test, it is known that the PV simulator curve resembles the I-V curve and the P-V curve of conventional PV products. This PV simulator has maximum output power of 100 W, short circuit current of 5.75 A, and open circuit voltage of 22.5 V.
