RESISTENSI PEREMPUAN DALAM LEMBAGA PERKAWINAN PADA ERA MEIJI DAN VICTORIA Kajian Sastra Bandingan

Inggris dan Jepang sebagai negara maju di Eropa dan di Asia memiliki karakter kehidupan sosial modern. Pada tengah abad yaitu 19 Era Victoria di Inggris dan Era Meiji di Jepang, kedua negara di dua benua yang berbeda ini mengalami proses modernisasi yang terjadi hampir bersamaan. Meski disebut sebagai era yang menjunjung tinggi proses modernisasi. Akan tetapi, posisi perempuan pada perkawinan pada kedua era ini masih sama-sama mengalami belenggu. Era Victoria dan Meiji yang menjadi latar dalam novel Far from the Madding Crowd karya Thomas Hardy dan Ginko karya Watanabe Junichi. Melalui kedua novel tersebut, penulis melakukan penelitian dengan tujuan untuk melihat posisi perempuan pada kontrak seksual, serta beroperasinya resistensi terhadap lembaga perkawinan yang dilakukan perempuan di dua konteks negara yang berbeda. Hal ini dilakukan untuk melihat lebih lanjut mengenai aspek-aspek ideologis yang ditawarkan Watanabe dan Hardy terkait dengan kondisi sosial pada era Victoria dan Meiji. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian sastra bandingan, penulis memanfaatkan konsep teori Kontrak Seksual oleh Carole Pateman yang dielaborasi dengan beberapa pendapat scholars. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa posisi perempuan dalam kontrak seksual pada era Meiji dan Victoria sama-sama mengalami ketidakadilan gender berupa; subordinasi, stereotip, marginalisasi, kekerasan verbal, serta beban kerja ganda. Manifestasi resistensi perempuan dalam lembaga perkawinan di era Victoria lebih asertif dibanding perempuan di era Meiji. Perubahan konstelasi dalam berbagai bidang menjadi pemicu munculnya resistensi perempuan di kedua era. Muncul paradoksalitas dalam kedua novel, perempuan yang telah berhasil terlepas dari kontrak seksual para pengarang yang berupaya melengkapi kehidupan perempuan modern melalui kehadiran laki-laki menunjukkan bahwa sisi lain dari perempuan modern adalah kehidupan yang berat sebelah dan tidak sempurna.

Britain and Japan as developed countries in Europe and in Asia have the character of modern social life. In the middle of the 19th century, the Victorian Era in Britain and the Meiji Era in Japan underwent a modernization process that occurred almost simultaneously. These two countries on two different continents referred as an era that upholds the modernization process However, the position of women in marriage in these two eras is still experiencing shackles. The Victorian and Meiji eras are the setting in Thomas Hardy's novels Far from the Madding Crowd and Watanabe Junichi's Ginko. Through these two novels, the author conducts research with the aim of looking at the position of women in the sexual contract, as well as the operation of resistance to the institution of marriage by women in two different countries. This is done to see further about ideological aspects offered by Watanabe and Hardy related to social conditions in the Victorian and Meiji eras. This research is a comparative literature study, the author uses the concept of Sexual Contract theory by Carole Pateman which is elaborated by several scholars' opinions. The results of the study indicate that the position of women in sexual contracts in the Meiji and Victorian eras both experienced gender injustice in the form of; subordination, stereotypes, marginalization, verbal abuse, and double workload. The manifestation of women's resistance in the institution of marriage in the Victorian era was more assertive than women in the Meiji era. Changes in the constellation in various fields have triggered the emergence of women's resistance in both eras. Paradoxical appears in both novels, women who have managed to escape the sexual contract of the authors who try to complete the lives of modern women through the presence of men show that the other side of modern women is a one-sided and imperfect life.
