IMPLEMENTASI LABORATORIM VIRTUAL BERBASIS CLOUD SEBAGAI PLATFORM LABORATORIUM PRAKTIKUM

Pandemi COVID-19 yang terjadi sejak Maret 2020 menyebabkan kegiatan belajar harus dilakukan secara daring. Namun dalam beberapa topik pelajaran dibutuhkan kegiatan praktikum, di antaranya praktikum pemrograman yang menggunakan laboratorium komputer. Untuk memenuhi kegiatan praktikum dibutuhkan laboratorium komputer yang dapat diakses secara daring dan dapat digunakan dengan komputer berspesifikasi standar dengan koneksi internet yang lazim tersedia di Indonesia. Salah satu solusi praktikum daring adalah laboratorium virtual (Vlab) yaitu laboratorium komputer yang menggunakan teknologi virtualisasi. Vlab menyajikan virtual machine (VM) yang diakses daring dengan aplikasi remote access. Penelitian ini mengusulkan Vlab dengan infrastruktur cloud publik Azure Lab Services pada kasus kelas pemrograman berorientasi objek. Vlab dirancang berdasarkan spesifikasi laboratorium komputer praktikum pemrograman berorientasi objek. Implementasi Vlab harus dapat digunakan dengan komputer/laptop standar dan dapat diakses dengan kualitas jaringan internet yang ada di Indonesia. Berdasarkan analisis Total Cost of Ownership, biaya penyediaan Vlab berbasis cloud publik berpotensi lebih murah hingga 26% dibanding Vlab berbasis infrastruktur on-premise. Instalasi Vlab berbasis cloud publik yang menggunakan skrip PowerShell diselesaikan dalam 6 interaksi dan waktu instalasi selama 132 menit. Akses Vlab dapat dilakukan dengan komputer/laptop standar dengan kebutuhan bandwidth berkisar antara 0,04 Mbps hingga 2.76 Mbps. VM mampu menjalankan aplikasi yang dibutuhkan dalam praktikum dengan penggunaan CPU antara 11%-54% dan penggunaan RAM antara 25%-47%.

The COVID-19 pandemic that has occurred since March 2020 has forced learning activities to be conducted online. However, in some topics, practicum activities are needed, including the programming practicum that uses computer laboratory. To fulfill practical activities, a computer laboratory is needed that can be accessed online and can be used with standard computer specifications, also with an internet connection commonly available in Indonesia. One of the online practicum solutions is a virtual laboratory (Vlab), which is a computer laboratory that uses virtualization technology. Vlab presents a virtual machine (VM) that is accessed online using a remote access application. This study proposes Vlab with Azure Lab Services, a public cloud infrastructure using case object-oriented programming classes. Vlab is designed based on object-oriented programming computer lab specifications. Vlab implementation must be able to be used with standard computers/laptops and can be accessed with the quality of the internet network in Indonesia. The cost of providing Vlab, the process of preparing Vlab classes, VM performance, and Vlab access mechanisms are analyzed to determine the suitability of Vlab as an object-oriented programming practicum platform. Based on the Total Cost of Ownership analysis, the cost of providing public cloud-based Vlabs is potentially up to 26% cheaper than on-premise infrastructure-based Vlabs. A public cloud-based Vlab installation performed using a PowerShell script can be completed in 6 interactions and an installation time of 132 minutes. Vlab access can be done with a standard computer/laptop with bandwidth usage ranges from 0.04 Mbps to 2.76 Mbps. The VM can run the applications needed in the lab with CPU usage between 11%-54% and RAM usage between 25%-47%.
