GANGGUAN KECEMASAN, TRAUMA, DAN MEKANISME PERTAHANAN DIRI DALAM NOVEL THE QUEENS GAMBIT (KAJIAN PSIKOANALISIS SIGMUND FREUD)

Penelitian ini menggunakan novel The Queen's Gambit karya Walter Stone Tevis yang diterbitkan pertama kali pada tahun 1983. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis gangguan kecemasan dan trauma yang dihadapi para tokoh serta mekanisme pertahanan diri yang mereka lakukan untuk menghadapi gangguan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dimana data primer maupun sekunder dijelaskan dengan perspektif teori psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud. Hasil pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa para tokoh mengalami gangguan kecemasan. Kecemasan realistik telah menerpa seluruh tokoh dalam cerita meskipun berasal dari latar belakang kehidupan yang berbeda. Kecemasan neurotik hanya menerpa dua tokoh yakni Elizabeth Harmon dan Nyonya Deardorff karena perasaan takut terhadap hukuman. Kecemasan moral menerpa Nyonya Deardorff, Alma Wheatley, dan Beth Harmon karena rasa bersalah atas perbuatan yang melangggar nilai moral. Seluruh jenis trauma hanya menerpa tokoh utama Elizabeth Harmon. Trauma situasional Beth hadir setelah mengalami kejadian traumatis perceraian orangtua, kecelakaan ibu kandung, serta kematian ibu angkatnya karena hepatisis. Trauma perkembangan Beth terjadi secara bertahap, sejak lahir mendapatkan penolakan, saat remaja mengalami perundungan, saat dewasa tidak dianggap sebagai anak. Trauma intrapsikis Beth hadir karena pelecehan seksual dari teman sesama wanita. Trauma Eksistensial Beth hadir karena perasaan kurang berarti sebab tidak memiliki dukungan apapun terhadap mimpinya. Untuk mengatasi gangguan kecemasan dan trauma, seluruh tokoh menerapkan mekanisme pertahanan diri. Regresi, dimana individu mengalami kemunduran pada perkembangan emosi dan kepribadiannya serta perilaku berubah menjadi kekanak-kanakan merupakan satu-satunya jenis pertahanan diri yang tidak digunakan oleh seluruh tokoh dalam novel The Queen's Gambit.

This study uses the novel The Queen's Gambit by Walter Stone Tevis which published first in 1983. This study aims to identify the types of anxiety and trauma disorders faced by the characters and the self defence mechanisms they use to deal with these disorders. This study uses descriptive qualitative method where primary and secondary data are explained through the perspective of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis theory. The results of the discussion show that the characters experience anxiety disorders. Realistic anxiety attacked all the characters even though they come from different backgrounds. Neurotic anxiety only attacked two characters, namely Elizabeth Harmon and Mrs. Deardorff because of their fear of punishment. Moral anxiety attacked Mrs. Deardorff, Alma Wheatley, and Beth Harmon out of guilt for an act that violated moral values. All type of trauma attacked the main character, Elizabeth Harmon. Beth's situational trauma was present after experiencing the traumatic event of her parents' divorce, her mother's accident, and the death of her adoptive mother due to hepatitis. Beth's developmental trauma occurred gradually, from birth got rejection, when teenagers were bullied, when adults were not considered as children. Intrapsychic trauma comes from sexual harassment from her female friend. Existential trauma comes from feeling insignificant because she doesn't have any support for her dreams. To overcome anxiety and trauma disorders, all characters apply self-defence mechanisms. Regression, where individual personality development and behaviour becomes childish is the only type of self-defence that not used in the novel The Queen's Gambit.
