The Role of Occupational Self-Efficacy on Work Engagement with Perception of Social Context as Mediator Variable among Millennial Workers

Di era globalisasi, berbagai organisasi berlomba-lomba dalam memajukan sumber daya manusianya untuk mencapai kesuksesan. Salah satu faktor penting dalam keberhasilan suatu organisasi terkait dengan sumber daya manusia adalah work engagement pada karyawan. Penelitian ini mengkaji peran occupational self-efficacy terhadap work engagement dengan Perception of Social Context (PoSC) sebagai mediator diantara 115 pekerja milenial yang telah bekerja di perusahaan mereka saat ini setidaknya selama satu tahun. Pengukuran menggunakan Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (UWES-9) untuk mengukur work engagement, Short Occupational Self-Efficacy Scale (untuk mengukur occupational self-efficacy, dan Perception of Social Context (PoSC) untuk mengukur persepsi mengenai konteks sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peran occupational self-efficacy terhadap work engagement yang dimediasi oleh perception of social context di kalangan pekerja milenial. Analisis data menggunakan analisis model mediasi sederhana 4 dari PROCESS for SPSS menunjukkan bahwa terdapat mediasi parsial dimana occupational self-efficacy secara signifikan dapat memprediksi PoSC (Beta= 0.298, p <0,05), PoSC secara signifikan dapat memprediksi work engagement (Beta= 0.370, p <0,05), occupational self-efficacy secara signifikan dapat memprediksi work engagement (Beta= 0,512, p <0,05), dan occupational self-efficacy dimediasi dengan PoSC secara signifikan dapat memprediksi work engagement (Beta = 0,402, p <0,05). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, maka hipotesis dalam penelitian ini diterima. Dengan perception of social context berperan sebagai mediator parsial pada peran occupational self-efficacy terhadap work engagement, disarankan bagi organisasi untuk mengembangkan program dan pelatihan yang berfokus pada efikasi diri dan sumber utamanya, dalam hal ini juga secara khusus difokuskan pada domain konteks sosial dalam pekerjaan.

In the era of globalization, various organizations compete in advancing their human resources to achieve more success. One of the important factor in the success of an organization related to human resources is employees' work engagement. This study examines the role of occupational self-efficacy towards work engagement with the perception of social context as the mediator among 115 millennial workers who have worked in their current company for at least one year. The measurement used Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (UWES-9) to measure work engagement, Short Occupational Self-Efficacy Scale to measure occupational self-efficacy. Perception of Social Context (PoSC) scale to measure the perception of social context. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of occupational self-efficacy on work engagement mediated by perception of social context among millennial workers. The data analysis using simple mediation model 4 analysis from PROCESS for SPSS showed that there was partial mediation where there was a occupational self-efficacy significantly predicted PoSC (Beta= 0.298, p <0.05), PoSC significantly predicted work engagement (Beta= 0.370, p <0.05), occupational self-efficacy significantly predicted work engagement (Beta= 0.512, p <0.05), and occupational self-efficacy mediated by PoSC significantly predicted work engagement (Beta = 0.402, p <0.05). Based on the results of the study, the hypothesis in this study was accepted. As perception of social context partially mediated the role of occupational self-efficacy on work engagement, it is suggested for organizations to develop programs and training cantered on self-efficacy and its main sources, in this case it is also specially focused in the domain of social context in work.
