The Role of Gender Role Conflict and Relationship Satisfaction On The Psychological Distress of Indonesian Males

Penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengkaji distres psikologis seringkali lebih ditujukan kepada perempuan sebagai subjeknya daripada laki-laki. Studi yang menunjukkan bahwa distres psikologis pria sangat terkait dengan konflik peran gender dan kepuasan hubungan mereka. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi pengaruh konflik peran gender dan kepuasan hubungan terhadap distres psikologis pria di Indonesia. Dalam penelitian ini, subjek penelitian adalah 113 pria menikah yang berusia minimal 18 tahun. Hipotesis yang diuji adalah apakah konflik peran gender dan kepuasan hubungan memiliki pengaruh simultan terhadap distres psikologis pria. Skala Konflik Peran Gender, Skala Kepuasan Perkawinan Enrich, dan Skala Distress Psikologis Kessler semuanya dimasukkan dalam kuesioner untuk mengukur variabel dalam penelitian ini. Kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konflik peran gender dan kepuasan hubungan menunjukkan hasil yang signifikan p=0,00 bila diuji secara simultan, dengan nilai r-square sebesar 0,264. Ditemukan juga bahwa kepuasan hubungan memiliki korelasi negatif dengan distres psikologis pada pria menikah yang ditunjukkan dengan signifikansi p= 0,598, sedangkan konflik peran gender tidak secara langsung mempengaruhi distres psikologis yang ditunjukkan dengan p-value p= 0,00.

Research aimed towards the study of psychological distress is often aimed more towards women as the subject rather than men. The studies that do show that men's psychological distress is highly linked to that of their gender role conflict and relationship satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of gender role conflict and relationship satisfaction on male psychological distress in Indonesia. In this study, the subjects were that of 113 married men who were at least 18 years of age. The hypothesis tested is if both gender role conflict and relationship satisfaction have a simultaneous effect on the psychological distress of men. The Gender Role Conflict Scale, Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale, and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale were all included in a questionnaire in order to measure the variables in this research. It was then analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results show that Gender role conflict and relationship satisfaction showed a significant result of p=0.00 when tested simultaneously, with an r-square value of 0.264. It was also found that relationship satisfaction has a negative correlation with that of psychological distress in married men shown with the significance of p= .598, while gender role conflict does not directly affect that of psychological distress shown with p-value of p= 0.00.
