COVID-19 has caused enormous global problems. Since the first occurrences in March 2020, the coronavirus has infected over a million Indonesians. COVID-19 spreads through droplets of various sizes. Infected people release droplets that can spread throughout a room. The small droplets could linger in the air for several hours. According to WHO, ventilation should be acknowledged as a method of reducing airborne disease transmission. However, acoustical issues will occur when high ventilation rates, both natural and mechanical, are used to design an Auditorium. This research addresses the problem of providing a reliable solution in the Auditorium design process with a low risk of COVID-19 transmission while maintaining the excellent acoustic quality that meets standards. However, with the design solution provided, it is required to determine whether the ventilation system's air exchange is sufficient to prevent COVID-19 infections in the UGM Auditorium. Because the construction area is in an urban area, environmental noise has a great potential to enter the auditorium and disrupt the acoustic quality of the UGM Auditorium through the window openings. As a result, research steps are required, which include examining environmental noise in the UGM Auditorium area, addressing environmental noise issues, and investigating the acoustic quality of the UGM auditorium design. This thesis successfully demonstrates the required techniques to predict the adequacy of the ventilation design to minimize the risk of COVID-19 at the UGM Auditorium. Several variations in the natural ventilation simulation are applied to window openings and weather data (wind direction and wind speed). The results indicate that all scenarios met the ASHRAE and WHO minimum ventilation requirements for acceptable indoor air quality, except the scenario with an air velocity of 0.1 m/s, the wind direction of 38°, and 50% of opening type. In such a scenario, the resulting airflow rate is 6,052.21 l/s, which violates the WHO Guideline. Moreover, the mechanical ventilation system was determined based on manual calculations. The fan employed can move 807 CFM of air. Thus, 8 fans must comply with ASHRAE 62.1 criteria, whereas 26 fans must adhere to WHO guidelines. A transition room with 22 windows is offered for this project to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. However, the noise approaching the transition room is exceptionally high (65 dBA). Thus, to overcome this problem, the auditorium wall construction is designed to have a high STC value to block and/or reduce noise from damaging the acoustic quality of the UGM Auditorium. The noise insulation simulation results indicate that a wall construction with a thickness of 10 cm and an insulation density of 33 kg/m3 is recommended since it achieves an STC of 51. Additionally, for the room's acoustic quality, the simulation results indicate that the music function parameters successfully complied with ISO 3382-1. However, active design (sound system) and ceiling acoustic must support the speech function. The inclusion of this panel considerably improved the clarity of sound. According to previous studies, no research has been conducted on the auditorium, which has a low risk of COVID-19. Furthermore, there are currently no healthy building standards to mitigate this risk. This thesis can create a novel way for constructing an auditorium that is both healthful and acoustically sound. This guideline is helpful for building practitioners because the engineering implementation principles incorporate best practices in the planning profession, industry standards, and building physics concepts.
