The depletion of fossil fuel has accelerated the needs to find new sources of renewable energy. As per Indonesia is located at the heart of ring fire, the geothermal potential of the country is at its peak reaching 28.000 Megawatts (MW), spreaded over 349 points throughout the region and controlled 49 % of the worlds total geothermal energy demand. However, the improvement of its potential is still gradual. Silica scaling is one of the most common problems in geothermal power plants. One ways to control silica scaling is by adding calcium hydroxide to bind silica in liquid and it can be deposited on calcium silicate hydrate deposits. The purpose of this study was to explain the precipitation mechanism for the formation of calcium silicate deposits, formulate equations for the formation of calcium silicate hydrate, determine the value of the kinetic parameters of the equations that have ben arranged as influencing variables Calcium hydroxide is added to 300 mL of artificial geothermal fluid that had been set at certain pH and temperature. This process is carried out in a three-neck flask on a hot mantel varied at pH 9, 10 and 11 and temperature 30, 50, and 90 degree Celcius with 800 rpm speed. During precipitation, 1 mL of sample was taken to measure the absorbance value using the blue molybdate method with UV-visible spectrophotometry. The absorbance value obtained was calculated by the linearization equation from the standart curve to get the concentration value. The initial size distribution was measured with a particle size analyzer as the initial value to for completing the grain size growth model. Meanwhile, to determine the composition of solid formations, analysis was carried out using Raman spectroscopy. This precipitation process was influenced by mass transfer from the liquid body to the solid. The higher pH and temperature, the lower the final silica concentration. The optimum conditions obtained from this work at pH 11 and temperature 80°C. In this condition, the mass transfer coefficient (kc) value is 0,0007 m/minutes, rate of nuclei formation 2,6398 number of particle/minutes/ppm, and the final diameter is 46,7 micrometer.
