Japanese animation has been an integral part of the international media in the past decade by obtaining popularity through globalization which saw the rise of exposure it gets not only around Asia but also the Western part of the world, the popularity of Japanese animation has proven to be beneficial not only for Japanese culture but also its politics and economic aspects being the country's biggest well-known soft power and industry surrounding animation and tourism due to sheer amount of global popularity that Japan receives through Naruto, Dragon Ball and One Piece in the late 1990s and early 2000s with it being followed by the rise of new-generation Japanese animation in the past few years. Then, how can the popularity of Japanese animation be utilized by other country especially Indonesia? This thesis proposes two aspects that can be used by Indonesia; the first being the rise of Indonesian animation as well as the decline in interest in Japanese animation due to its condition which subsequently resulted in a scarcity that can be fatal for the developing Japanese animation industry. And also how the domestic popularity of Japanese animation may create an opportunity for Indonesian SMEs to take advantage in the form of merchandise and other memorabilia which in hope can be used by Indonesia to develop its own creative industry and using it as its own soft power following the case of Japan.
