Households plastic waste is a major threat to human health and the environment. One of the efforts to overcome the problem of environmental pollution can be done through waste separation activities. Plastic waste separation is useful to minimize the production number of wastes that will contaminate environment. Waste separation is also needed for recycling needs. This research investigates the household behavior towards the plastic waste separation in Indonesia according to the Norm Activation Model (NAM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), situational factors, and habit. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using SmartPLS. The number of respondents who were collected in this study were 500 people who came from households in Indonesia. The theoretical model is built based on previous research using the NAM and TPB models by adding situational factors and habits. The results of this study indicate that personal norms are influenced by awareness of consequences, the ascription of responsibility, and subjective norms. Awareness of consequences, personal norms, attitudes and habits influence intentions. While subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and situational factors do not affect intentions. Awareness of consequences of intentions is mediated from personal norms. The mediating effect of the ascription of responsibility on awareness of consequences and personal norms. Attitudes, subjective norms, situational factors, and intentions affect behavior directly. Perceptions of behavioral control, habits, and personal norms do not directly affect waste sorting behavior. The intention factor is able to mediate attitudes, habits, and personal norms towards behavior. Intention is the most important predictor in this model.
