This study aims to determine the effect of the escape gap on box folding traps on the fish catch composition, catch rate (CPUE), trap rate, and size distribution at the northern coast of Demak Regency. The research was carried out in September- October 2020 by experimental fishing at ten different locations. A total of 60 units of box folding traps were installed long line, consisting of 20 units of box traps without escape gaps as controls, 20 units of box folding traps with escape gaps 6x3 cm, and box folding traps with escape gaps 7x4 cm. The result showed that catches using box folding trap consisted of 22 species; grouped into six groups, namely, fish (4.27%), crabs (50.24%), snails (31.75%), crabs (10.9%), shrimp (1.9%), and cuttlefish (0.95%). The highest catch rate was found in the box folding trap without an escape gap. The number of catches for the box folding trap without an escape gap was 26.21 g/bubu/trip. The box folding trap without an escape gap resulted the highest trap rate (49%). The box folding traps with an escape gap of 6x3 cm produced a larger number and weight of catches compared to box folding traps with an escape gap of 7x4 cm.
