Kegagalan Aksi Nirkekerasan Sebagai Upaya Penolakan Pembangunan Pangkalan Militer di Desa Gangjeong

Pulau Jeju adalah salah satu pulau di Korea Selatan, yang diberikan status Pulau Perdamaian oleh pemerintah. Tetapi pada tahun 2007, salah satu desa di Pulau Jeju yaitu Desa Gangjeong terpilih sebagai lokasi pembangunan pangkalan militer. Warga desa yang merasa tidak dilibatkan dalam proses pengambilan keputusan tersebut tidak setuju dengan keputusan itu dan melakukan aksi nirkekerasan sebagai bentuk penolakan terhadap pembangunan tersebut. Kendati demikian, pangkalan militer tetap berhasil dibangun. Dengan menggunakan konsep metode anti nirkekerasan yang dipopulerkan oleh Gene Sharp, konsep jiu jitsu politik, dan konsep pilar pendukung, penulis menemukan bahwa kegagalan aksi nirkekerasan yang dilakukan disebabkan karena gerakan tersebut tidak secara strategis menyasar pilar-pilar pendukung yang signifikan bagi lawan dan menggunakan metode-metode yang tidak cukup memunculkan jiu jitsu moral pada pilar-pilar pendukung pemerintah untuk menarik dukungannya.

Jeju Island is one of the islands in South Korea, which was designated as Peace Island by the government. But in 2007, one of the village in Jeju Island, Gangjeong Village, was chosen as the site for the construction of a naval base. Villagers, whom were not involved in the decision-making process, did not agree with the decision and took nonviolent action as a form of rejection of the plan. Nevertheless, the military base was still successfully built. By using the concept of the non-violent method popularized by Gene Sharp, the concept of political jiu jitsu, and the concept of pillar of support, the author finds that the failure of nonviolent action is due to the movement not strategically targeting significant supporting pillars and using other method that are not enough to raise moral jiu jitsu on pillar of support to withdraw its support from the government.
