The limited use of radioactive sources in a nuclear institution or facility makes it necessary to deal with the radiation emitted. This is because the radiation source cannot be stopped or will continue to emit radiation until the radioactivity is at a safe or negligible value. Places used as storage for radioactive sources must be able to withstand the radiation dose rate to a value below the dose limit value (DLV) of 10 ¼Sv/hour or below the dose restriction of 5 ¼Sv/hour. The radioactive source storage box used in the Teknologi Energi Nuklir (TEN) Laboratory are not specifically designed to contain radiation dose rates. This makes it necessary to evaluate radiation safety based on radiation dose rate measurements and benchmark model simulations for calculating radiation dose rates at several points around the storage box. The storage box benchmark model provides a comparison value of the measurement results against the simulation results on the surface, namely: 2.6 times for the front side; 5.0 times for the right side; and 6.3 times for the left side. The benchmark model obtained is not good enough, so there needs to be improvements in measurement or modeling. The radiation dose rate from the simulation results on the surface is 0.38 ¼Sv/hour for the front side, 0.16 ¼Sv/hour for the right side, and 0.07 ¼Sv/hour for the left side. The material used in the storage box can reduce the radiation dose rate below the radiation dose limit value and dose restriction in all reviews carried out. The value of the radiation dose rate for each measurement and simulation process is 1.19 ¼Sv/hour in the room radiation dose rate mapping process, 0.97 ¼Sv/hour in the radiation dose rate measurement process at several points from the storage box, and 0.38 ¼Sv/hour on the simulation process for calculating the radiation dose rate with MCNP.
