Diabetes mellitus is a disease that manifests and can cause complications in the oral cavity. These complications are periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis), xerostomia, and dental caries. Complications that are not treated properly can cause tooth loss. The aim of this study was to know whether there was a significant difference in the number of tooth loss between controlled and uncontrolled type 2 DM. This type of research was analytic observational with a cross sectional design. The number of samples were 71 people with type 2 DM which were divided into 2 groups, 30 people with controlled type 2 DM and 41 people with uncontrolled type 2 DM. In both groups, data of the number of tooth loss from each subject were collected and statistically analysed by Independent sample t-test. The results showed that there were more female with type 2 DM, which were 51 female respondents (72.5%) compared to male respondents i.e. 20 (27,5%). The average number of tooth loss in controlled type 2 DM was 10.9 and that uncontrolled type 2 DM was 14.78. The results of the Independent sample t-test analysis in this study showed a significant value of 0.044 (p less than equal to 0.05). It can be concluded that the number of tooth loss in people with uncontrolled type 2 DM was significantly higher than that in controlled type 2 DM patients.
