This thesis seeks to explain how conflict attitudes have persisted in the post-conflict setting in Northern Ireland. The signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 has brought an official end to three decades of violence, colloquially known as the Troubles. However, the fact that communities live their lives along the ethno-political divide, as well as the continued prevalence of sectarianism, shows that conflict have moved from its manifest form to its latent form. This thesis will analyze the contentious realities of post-conflict society in Northern Ireland and link it with theories on the psychological dimensions of conflict in order to explain how conflict attitudes have persisted in Northern Ireland after the Good Friday Agreement.
