Globalisasi sangat berpengaruh dalam proses pertumbuhan dan perkembangan kegiatan ekonomi lintas batas nasional dan regional. Hal ini terlihat dari pergerakan barang, informasi, jasa, modal dan tenaga kerja melalui perdagangan dan investasi. Salah satu sektor riil yang saat ini menjadi prioritas adalah ekonomi kreatif. Berbeda dengan sektor lain yang bergantung pada eksploitasi sumber daya alam, kekuatan ekonomi kreatif lebih bertumpu pada keunggulan sumber daya manusia. Karya seni, arsitektur, buku, inovasi teknologi, dan animasi, berasal dari ide-ide kreatif pemikiran manusia. Agar ekonomi kreatif dapat bertumbuh dan semakin berkembang, pemerintah menunjuk beberapa kota dan kabupaten sebagai kota kreatif dengan identitas subsektor sesuai dengan potensi masing-masing daerah. Pada tahun 2017, Purwokerto diusulkan menjadi salah satu kota kreatif. Namun Purwokerto masih belum memiliki lokasi yang dapat digunakan sebagai tempat berkumpul serta kurangnya sumber daya penunjang untuk meningkatkan kreativitas yang terprogram dan terstruktur bagi pelaku ekonomi kreatif. Dengan adanya sebuah ruang publik baru yang dapat menampung masyarakat serta menunjang pelaksanaan kreativitas komunitas maka produktivitas ekonomi kreatif serta media hiburan intelektual masyarakat menjadi meningkat secara signifikan sehingga dapat berdampak secara positif kepada pertumbuhan dan perkembangan perekonomian, serta kualitas hidup masyarakat Purwokerto dan sekitarnya.

Globalization is very influential in the process of growth and development of economic activities across national and regional boundaries. This can be seen from the movement of goods, information, services, capital and labor through trade and investment. One of the priority real sectors currently is the creative economy. In contrast to other sectors that depend on the exploitation of natural resources, the strength of the creative economy rests more on the superiority of human resources. Artwork, architecture, books, technological innovation, and animation, come from creative ideas of human thought. In order for the creative economy to grow and develop, the government appointed several cities and regencies as creative cities with sub sector identities in accordance with the potential of each region. In 2017, Purwokerto is proposed to be one of the creative cities. However, Purwokerto still does not have a place that can be used as a gathering place and lack of supporting resources to increase programmed and structured creativity for creative economy practitioners. With the existence of a new public space that can accommodate the community and support the implementation of community creativity, the productivity of the creative economy and the intellectual media entertainment of the community will increase significantly so that it can have a positive impact on economic growth and development, and the quality of life of the people of Purwokerto and its surroundings.
