The contemporary China is often considered as one of the leading countries in terms of economic and military power. This aligns with what President Xi Jinping announced to the world: the idea of China's "rejuvenation", or China Dream; the dream of the Chinese people for prosperity and being proud of their country. The rise of China, along with China Dream, however, is often perceived as a threat, particularly by the U.S. The Belt and Road Initiative project and China's military expansion on South China Sea and Indian Ocean would seem that China expands its presence, influenced by the idea of China Dream. How China's rise will be, either a peaceful rise or leading to a worsen Sino-U.S. relations in the future, based on the definition of China Dream and how influential it is on China's identity. This thesis uses constructivism to analyse China Dream as China's foreign policy from historical approach. By understanding through the dynamics between history and identity, it is expected to understand more the influence of China Dream on China's foreign policy and China's attitude toward U.S. hegemony in Asia.
