The high mortality rate due to cancer encourages the development of effective cancer treatment methods, one of which is Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). This method has the opportunity to provide high survival rate treatment, one of which is for cervical cancer. This may occur due to its ability to selectively destroys the tumour cell at molecular level. In the treatment planning process of BNCT, it is necessary to know the optimum value of boron concentration injected to patient. This study aimed to determine the relation between the boron concentration injected to patient, with the dose rate and treatment time required for cervical cancer, so that medical physicist can obtain an overview regarding the optimum boron concentration value. To find out the optimal boron concentration value, a simulation was conducted using the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport Code System (PHITS). The parameters used in the simulation were the neutron source geometry of Beam Shaping Assembly from a 30 MeV cyclotron and an adult female pelvis phantom from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), in which materials were adopted from the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU). In addition to geometric parameters, the tally functions were also used, namely the t-track to observe the radiation distribution and the t-deposit to calculate the dose. According to the simulation, the results showed that the boron concentration was directly proportional to the dose rate received by the cancer tissue and inversely proportional to the duration of the therapy. The optimal concentration gained from this study was 100 µg/g of cancer tissue.
