Penelitian ini membahas kritik sosial yang diutarakan dalam album musik We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service oleh grup musik hip-hop A Tribe Called Quest dan kaitannya terhadap latar belakang sosio-politis karya tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi konteks sosio-politis dari karya tersebut dan menjelaskan kritik sosial yang diutarakan dalam lirik lagu tersebut. Sosiologi sastra digunakan sebagai landasan teori dalam menganalisis album tersebut sebagai sebuah karya yang merefleksikan perasaan sang musisi dan masyarakat tempat ia berasal terhadap topik-topik yang relevan dalam masa album tersebut dikeluarkan. Hasil dari analisis menunjukkan bahwa grup musisi A Tribe Called Quest mengangkat isu-isu seperti rasisme sistemik, kebrutalan polisi, politik, ekonomi, dan feminisme di dalam lirik lagu ciptaan mereka. Lirik-lirik tersebut bersama dengan latar belakang sosio-politis dari album tersebut dapat dianggap sebagai dokumentasi komunitas afrika amerika dan isu-isu yang menyangkut kehidupan mereka, serta pemikiran dan perasaan dari grup music tersebut sebagai bagian dari komunitas afrika amerika darimana mereka berasal, terhadap latar belakang sosio-politis masa tersebut.

This research discusses the social criticisms expressed throughout the 2016 album We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service by the hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest in relation to the socio-political background of the work. The objectives of this research are to identify the socio-political context of the work and explain the social criticisms expressed in the lyrics. The sociology of literature is used as the theoretical framework in analysing the album as a work that reflects both the society and the artist's beliefs regarding topics relevant to the era. The results of the analysis show that the group uplifts several major issues such as systemic racism, police brutality, politics, economy, and feminism throughout the work. The lyrics combined with the socio-political background of the album then can be seen as both a documentation of the black community and the issues surrounding their existence, as well as the thoughts and emotions of not only the group, but to an extent part of the black community from which they come from, regarding the socio-political landscape of the era.
