HEAVY METALS CONTAMINATION IN SOILS AND LETTUCE, AND HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT AT PERI-URBAN AREA IN HUE, VIETNAM

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (i) melakukan investigasi efek untreated wastewater dari kota Hue pada kontaminasi logam berat di tanah, sayuran dan air irigasi di area pertanian peri-urban; (ii) melakukan perhitungan potensi risiko kesehatan pada penduduk sekitar melalui konsumsi sayuran di area sekitar. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan setiap bulan dari Mei 2018 - Januari 2019. Sample dipilih dari tiga site lokasi penelitian yaitu Huong Chu (A), Phu Mau (B) dan Quang Thanh (C). pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada air irigasi, tanah kontrol dan pertanian, dan sayuran di kota Hue, Vietnam. Ekstraksi logam berat menggunkan metode wet digestion. Prinsip penggunaan metode wet digestion adalah menggunakan asam kuat yaitu asam nitrit (HNO3), asam klorida (HCl) dan asam sulfat (H2SO4). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, (a) Konsentrasi logam berat di air irigasi dan tanah pertanian tidak terkontaninasi secara serius. (b) Ditemukan efek yang signifikan dari penggunaan untreated wastewater dan aktivitas pertanian di tanah pertanian di daerah hilir. (c) Sebanyak 14%, 76% dan 47% dari sayuran terkontaminasi oleh Cr, Cd, dan Pb. (d) Konsentrasi Cr pada tanah disebabkan karena pupuk. (e) Konsumsi sayuran tergolong dalam risiko kesehatan yang dapat ditoleransi.

The objective of this research was to (i) investigates the effect of untreated wastewater from Hue City on the contaminations of heavy metals in soils, vegetables and irrigation water of peri-urban agricultural areas; (ii) estimate the health risk potential to local residents via vegetable consumption harvested in the areas. Samples were taken monthly from May 2018 - January 2019. Samples were selected from three-site locations such as Huong Chu (A), Phu Mau (B), and Quang Thanh (C). Sampling was carried out on irrigation water, control and agricultural soils, and vegetables in Hue city, Vietnam. Extraction of heavy metals using the wet digestion method. The principle of wet digestion is to use strong acids such as nitric acid (HNO3), hydrochloric acid (HCl), and sulphuric acid (H2SO4). Based on the results of this study, (a) Concentration of heavy metals in irrigation water and agricultural soils were not contaminated seriously. (b) The significant effect of untreated wastewater and agricultural activities in agricultural soil in downstream farms was found. (c) 14%, 76%, and 47% of vegetables were contaminated by Cr, Cd, and Pb. (d) The concentration of Cr in soils affected by manure. (e) The consumption of vegetables harvested there can pose a tolerable health risk.
